"It
looks like its gonna rain," Virginia said as she looked at the scenery around her. It would never cease to
amaze her that the nine kingdoms were so beautiful. Just ahead there was a rather large tavern with a sign beside
it."Rooms available..." Wolf read. "Hmm. maybe we should wait out the storm here. If anything, we can rent a room and stay the night." Wolf and Virginia were on their first trip without the baby in what seemed like ages, and the thought of being in a room by themselves didn’t sound like a bad idea. They walked in the tavern and were greeted by a young girl. She appeared to be slightly younger than Virginia. "In to dodge the storm, are ye? Well, never fear, I’ll set you up. Let’s see.. The wolf is starved, and the mother only wants a cider. I got ye." She hurried back behind the bar. Virginia looked at wolf suspiciously. "How did she know all that? Have you been here before?" Wolf shook his head. He was as surprised as he was. The girl behind the bar looked up and smiled. "You just sit yourself down, and Morghan will explain everything." She motioned to an empty table by the bar. Slowly, they sat down and the girl mad her way through the crowd. She sat the cider in front of Virginia, and a plate of ribs in front of Wolf. Wolf’s eyes widened as he sniffed the food. "Huff Puff, these ribs are a secret wolf recipe!" He exclaimed breathlessly. the girl grinned. Virginia looked at her in amazement. "Me name’s Morghan, Morghan Merripip." she said. " "I’m the owner of this tavern." Virginia’s jaw dropped to the floor. "But you’re so young! where’s the rest of your family?" she managed to say. She was completely in awe. "Mother and father both dead, killed by the evil queen. She also killed my little sister. My older sister disappeared. This was her tavern." Virginia’s look of awe melted into a frown. "Oh, I’m dreadfully sorry." she said. Wolf squeezed Virginia’s hand. He knew it wasn’t easy for her to think of the evil queen as her mother, especially when she heard some of the awful things she did. "When we walked in, how did you know so much about us?" he said, trying to change the subject. Morghan smiled. "Ahh, I was waiting for that. Usually it's the first question. My grandmother was a gypsy and some things just run in the family. I can’t read your mind, I just get feelings and flashes of thoughts." At the word gypsy, Virginia shuddered. Wolf hoped Morghan hadn’t caught it, but she had. "Bad experience with a gypsy?" she asked, slightly amused. "Yeah, a curse. Almost killed me." Wolf noticed a look of amazement in Morghan’s eyes. "A curse? Dearie me, what’d you do?" Morghan listened intently while Virginia told the story. She nodded slightly at the end. "Aye, grandmother was very protective of her birds. She gave me one for my seventh birthday and made me promise not to tell a soul about it." Someone called her name on the other side of the tavern. "Well," she said, "I must go attend to my customers now, tell me when you’re ready to go up to your room." and then she added with a smile, "I’ll give you the honeymoon suite." Virginia and Wolf watched as she walked up to the bar, fixed some drinks and took them to a table in the back corner of the tavern. "She’s amazing." Virginia said. "I’d go crazy if I could read thoughts." Virginia glanced over at Wolf, whose eyes were still intently fixed on Morghan. "Wolf dearest," she said with a smile, "What are you doing?" Wolf shook his head. "I’ve seen her before. Somewhere, She’s just so familiar." They sat and talked, and while they did, the rain poured. The tavern wasn’t too terribly busy, but you could tell Morghan was getting some extra business because of the rain. Night came and Virginia grew tired. "Let’s go up to the room. I’m exhausted." Wolf nodded. All of a sudden, his eyes lit up. "I know!" he said. Morghan looked over at them. "Ready for your room?" Virginia was about to thank her for her hospitality, but Wolf interrupted her. "You have a little brother too.. A gypsy?" She smiled. "Ahh, you are a smart one. I do have a younger brother, Now, follow me." She led them to a door near the back of the tavern. Behind the door was a staircase, The followed her up to the first room and watched as she opened the door. It was a fairly large room, immaculately clean, and behind the bed was a mirror. Virginia gasped. "Is that a travelling mirror?" Morghan nodded. "I do believe so." Wolf smiled. "Huff Puff, we haven’t seen one of those since we had the baby!" Morghan smiled, "Enjoy your stay and if you need anything, I’ll be downstairs." She walked out the door, shutting it behind her. "Ahh, here I am with the dreamy, creamy girl of my dreams. What shall I do?" Wolf said. He took her hand and kissed it. Virginia smiled. "I think you know what to do." He pulled her in close and smelled the air around her. "You smell just like you did the first time. Succulent." he growled in delight. Then he took her like the wolf he was. |
