This Weeks Ratings at a Glance

The Good
  • The Vice Presidential Debate was the clear front runner this week when it broke a record at 70 million viewers, making it the hightest rated VP debate.  Last week's Presidential Debate drew in 52 million.
  • Dexter slayed this week with a Showtime record of  1.2 million viewers.  But not everyone stuck around for Californication which got just over half a mil.
  • Fans of Desperate Housewives were clearly desperate to have the show back as they raked 18.4 million viewers last Sunday.   And just after them in the 10 o'clock slot was Brothers & Sisters doing alright as well with 12.4 million.  Maybe this is why Mad Men suffered such shrinkage?
The Bad
  • Apparently grabbing a few Emmys doesn't do a thing for your reputation.  Mad Men suffered a big drop in viewership during last Sunday's episode, the first new one since the weekend before the awards show, with 1.6 million in comparison to 1.9 two weeks prior.
  • Long awaited but easily forgotten?  Pushing Daisies was considered to be one of the more highly anticipated returns of the season, even snagging an Emmy itself, but apparently Knight Rider was just too much for them as the show took 4th in their slot with just 6.3 million viewers.  In fact, ABC didn't slumped across the board on their big premiere night with Private Practice at 8 million and Dirty Sexy Money at 8 million and at 7.1.
  • Poor Chuck had a rough start being up against heavy Monday night hitters like Gossip Girl, Terminator, Dancing with the Stars and even Big Bang Theory.  The show premiered to only 6.8 million viewers.  Better luck next week!

This makes me a little sad. Two of my favorites, Mad Men and Pushing Daisies have dropped. MM will be fine, I'm sure AMC will keep it as long as the creator is interested. But PD may be in jeopardy if the trend keeps up.
