HBO Nabs a New One From the Creator of 'The Wire'

HBO has officially picked up the new drama "Treme" created by David Simon ("The Wire").

"Treme" is set in post-Katrina New Orleans and follows the rebuilding of the city through the eyes of local musicians.

Long time resident Eric Overmyer ("Homicide") is co-creating the series with Simon.  Apparently this has been a project they've been discussing for years.  However, don't think you're getting a "Wire" remake set in the Big Easy.

"This is not a 'Wire' redo with a New Orleans soundtrack," said Simon. "It's more of a character study looking at people trying to reconstruct their lives after their city has been destroyed and at a city that a living, breathing organism."

"Treme" joins HBO's other series pickups: "Hung," "Bored to Death," and "How To Make it In America."
