Character Bios

Dr.
Mark Greene ~ ER Chief Resident. He is extremely competent and
hard working. He divorced from wife Jen, after finding out she was having an affair. They have a daughter named
Rachel. Mark had a long term friendship with Susan Lewis and he eventually realized that he loved her after she
decided to leave Chicago. He made a frantic dash to the station to tell her he loves her but she left anyway. Since
then he has had multiple brief relationships. |
Dr.
Peter Benton ~ Surgical Resident. An ambitious and arrogant but
also brilliant surgeon. He is hard on people and does not often take other peoples feelings into consideration,
but becomes upset if people try to criticize him. He was devastated at the death of his mother in season two. He
had an affair with Jeannie Boulet, then found out afterwards that her husband has HIV positive and that she might
have it. He was tested and was found to be negative. He and Carla have a son, Reese, who has hearing loss, however
he might be able to develop normal language with a hearing aid. |
Carol
Hathaway ~ Head Nurse in the ER. She tried to commit suicide
in the first season by swallowing barbiturates. It was revealed that she and Doug Ross went out together for at
least two years, then he broke it off. She was engaged to an orthopedic doctor named John Taglieri, but he stood
her up at the altar because he thought she didn't love him enough. She dated a paramedic, but things start going
wrong between them after his partner died in a fire and they soon split. Carol had a career crisis and took Pre-Med
exams to become a doctor, but decided to remain a nurse. She and Doug got back together, even became engaged, but
he has left Chicago without her. She is pregnant with his baby, but hasn't told him. |
John
Carter ~ An ER Resident. He is a doctor who is very compassionate
towards his patients. He came from a wealthy family. He was a surgical Intern, was good at it but decided to switch
from surgical to medical, causing him to have to repeat a year of internship. Carter is a very caring person, who
gets on well with most people, and stays cool in an emergency. |
Dr.
Elizabeth Corday ~ Surgeon. She joined the cast in 1997. She's
on an exchange fellowship, sponsored by Dr. "Rocket" Romano. She's a fellow of the royal college of surgeons
in England, which is similar to a senior resident. Her father and grandfather are surgeons. There was conflict
and competition with Dr Benton at first, but they are now getting along. |
Dr.
Kerry Weaver ~
Attending physician. She is Jeanie's friend and was the first to know at work about Jeanie having HIV. Was Chief
Resident, wrote a trashy novel about the ER staff and was acting ER Chief, but was not selected for the position
permanently. |
Jeannie
Boulet ~ An ER Physician Assistant. Originally, she was Dr Benton's
mothers Physiotherapist. She and Benton had a brief affair. She later found out that her husband contracted HIV
after having an affair. She is tested and is positive, Benton is tested and is negative. |
Lucy
Knight ~ An idealistic third-year medical student with little
experience. |
Dr.
Susan Lewis ~ Second Year ER Resident. She left Chicago to be
near her sister, Chloe, and niece, Susan. Chloe had a drug problem and left town leaving her baby with her sister
for several months. Left the show in 1996. |
Dr.
Doug Ross ~ Pediatrics Resident. Mark Greene's best friend. A
brilliant Pediatrician, able to establish an instant raport with children, but has a reputation as a womanizer
and heavy drinker. His father abandoned him and his mother when he was 12 years old. He is in love with Carol Hathaway,
although he can't seem to make a commitment. He blames himself for her attempted suicide. Left the show in February
1999. |
