'Raising the Bar' First Look at Season 2 - Should you watch?

Mark-Paul GosselaarIf Mark-Paul Gosselaar's awful long hair was keeping you from watching season one of "Raising the Bar," well wait no more....it's gone.

I have to say, I kind of gave up on this show last season and only because it takes a lot for a courtroom drama to keep me interested.  It's not to say "Bar" is bad, on the contrary, it's very good. I just need that something special to keep me coming back.

It's possible they've won me over with the second season premiere.  Last season we all made such a big deal over Gosselaar's (Jerry Kellerman) ridiculous long hair that it was difficult to concentrate on much else.  But rather than just snip it in the off season and throw him back in the mix as a clean shaven man, they cleverly added the change into the script as part of the story line.

The writer's clearly acknowledge our disdain for the do in episode one where we open with Jerry's birthday party and a room full of friends mocking his look. Later, as part of the story line, he decides to lose the locks in an effort to appear more professional.

As far as the cases go, nothing truly significant.  They're fun and you'll want to stick around to find out what happens, but no big "wow" moments or anything.

Standouts?  Currie Graham as Nick Balco, the "assistant district attorney with a penchant for hard ball and sexual innuendo," is fantastic.  What can I say?  I'm a sucker for a character with no filter.

Also a standout, John Michael Higgins ("Best in Show") appears as Judge Albert Farnsworth, an eccentric judge who loves a good bow-tie and is a stickler for the rules.  He's an hilarious addition to the cast and I certainly look forward to seeing more of him.

So, should you watch?  Sure!  It's not amazing television but in the end, there's nothing bad I can say about it.. especially now that the hair is gone.

The new season of "Raising the Bar" premiere's Monday June 8th at 10pm on TNT with the appropriately titled first episode, "Hair Apparent."

Thanks for the reminder, we watched a few episodes last year, then lost track of the show somehow. I'm glad to hear they were self aware enough to play with the hair situation, I'll definitely watch that episode just to see how they work it in to his story.

Love the show can't wait for June 8th! thanks for the sneak peak

Great show, best show on TV since NYPD Blue!
