What's Brewin' in TV News - 'One Life to Live' Loses Two, CBS Takes 5 and More

  • "One Life to Live" actor Phil Carey passed away this weekend after a battle with lung cancer at the age of 83.  Carey originated the role of business tycoon Asa Buchanan in 1980 and continued to play the part for nearly 30 years.Also this week, Clint Ritchie, who played Clint Buchanan for 20 years, died at the age of 70 after a brief illness.  source
  • ABC Family has officially sealed the deal for "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" for a second season. The network has ordered 24 episodes, one more than the 23 episode season 1.  source
  • This summer's "America's Got Talent" has a new host!  Nick Cannon will be taking the reigns from Jerry Springer who bowed out just last week.  Cannon is host number three since the show began, with Regis Philbin as the original.  source
  • CBS was super busy last week when the netowrk officially picked up 5 pilots.  First, a couple of medical dramas, one from Bruckheimer called "Miami Trauma" and another called "Three Rivers" which will follow organ transplants from every perspective of parties involved.  Then there's the latest in political drama called "The Good Wife", about a wife finding her own identity by becoming a defense attorney.  Also, from "Arrested Development producer Mitch Hurwitz, comes "Waiting to Die" and finally "Accidentally on Purpose" which is based on San Fran movie critic Mary F. Pol's autobiography.  source
  • NBC grabbed a new picked up a new romantic pilot called "State of Romance" which is described has "a modern day 'Pride and Prejudice' set in Chicago."  The new show is from writers/producers Barbara Wallace and tom Wolfe.  source
