The Latest in Pilot Pick Ups

--ABC nabbed a new pilot today called "No Heroics", about superheroes with not so great superpowers hanging out in a bar.  The show is based on a British series and will be written by Jeff Greenstein ("Will and Grace") and Drew Pearce who originated the series.

--FX was working hard yesterday when they greenlighted 2 new projects: "Lights Out" and an untitled project based on the Elmore Leonard short story "Fire in the Hole."

"Lights Out", from writers Justin Zackham ("Bucket List") and Philip Noyce, will focus on a former heavyweight boxing champ struggling with his identity and supporting his family with a new job as an enforcer collecting debts.  The character also suffers from pugilistic dementia, a disorder that often effects boxers who recieve multiple shots to the head, and he's slowly losing his memories.

The untitled project will be written by Graham Yost ("Boomtown") and follows Kentucky-based Marshal Raylan Given's (a "soft-spoken lawnman with a rough side") cases and personal life.

--CBS
picked up "I Witness" which comes from "CSI: NY" producer Pam Veasey.  The series will center on a "detective/professor who uses her psycho-physiological skills to solve crimes."

--Spike TV
just gave the go to a new 30-minute comedy called "Players", created by Matt Walsh who is one of the founders of the improv group Upright Citizens Brigrade.

The series will follow a pair of brothers with conflicting personalities who run a sports bar.  Walsh is set to play Bruce, the brother who dreams of hitting on women and betting on games while Ian Roberts (also of UCB) will play Ken, the brother trying to run a business.

The FX pair sound interesting. That could be because they are doing some of my favorite shows these days. I assume that Light's Out is a drama. The Elmore Leonard has promise, too. I loved Maximum Bob and Karen Sisco, both written by him and canceled too soon, I think by CBS? I'll give the new one a couple of episodes at least.
