Fox has officially renewed long time animated series "The Simpsons" for two more seasons which will make it the official longest running series in primetime television. The 44 episode pickup will bring the animated show to a total of 493 and considering that, I don't see why they'd cut it short of 500...so I'd expect another season to follow these two as well.
"Gunsmoke" is the current record holder for longest running series having been on the air for 20 years with 635 episodes. The only other contender along with "The Simpsons" would be "Law & Order" and considering NBC's recent decision to cut the 10pm slot, it's not likely "Order" will make it that far.
The cast has already been secured. The deal was made official when Gracie Films confirmed they were on board.
