The comedian is getting ready to launch his first reality series, tentatively named "The Marriage Ref", where celebs, comedians and athletes judge couples in the middle of a marital dispute. Then...the celebs recommend ways to resolve their problems.
I'm already laughing.
Ben Silverman, NBC co-chair, said Seinfeld pitched the idea as a "companion piece of sorts to his class sitcom" and of course, marriage has been the butt of many jokes in his stand-up act. So while "Seinfeld" was a sort of hilarious view into Jerry's single bachelor life, the unscripted series will be a play on his married years.
"Some of the greatest comedies in the history of television have been around marriages," Silverman said. "The concept is so universal and accessible, and obviously it works so well when it comes from somebody with a point of view -- and nobody has a stronger point of view on this subject than Seinfeld."
Seinfeld says, ""This is not a therapy show, it's a comedy show. After nine years of marriage, I have discovered that the comedic potential of this subject is quite rich."
The network has so far ordered up 6 one-hour episodes for the fall.
