TNT Greenlights Two New Dramas

TNT has given the greenlight to two new original series: the character-driven medical drama "Time Heals", starring Jada Pinkett Smith ("The Matrix Trilogy"), and the fast paced, undercover police drama "The Line", starring Dylan McDermott ("The Practice").

"We're excited to add 'The Line' and 'Time Heals' to a linup that is steadily establishing itself as one of the best slates of entertaining, smart dramas on television, " said Michael Wright, executive VP and head of programming for TNT. "Our new series are consistent with our belief that audiences are drawn to relatable, complex characters showcased in exciting, emotional settings and storylines."

"Time Heals" was created by Emmy winner John Masius ("St. Elswhere", "Dead Like Me") who also wrote the pilot script.  It takes place at Richmond Trinity Hospital in Charlotte, NC, where the strong-but-caring director of nursing, Christina Hawthorne (Pinkett Smith), continuously fights battles she often knows she can't win. She challenges hospital administrators, heartless doctors, apathetic colleagues and a system that sometimes forgets it's there to server the sick.

"The Line", produced by Jerry Bruckheimer ("CSI"), follows Carter Shaw (McDermott), the head of a crack undercover team of police officers who are so covert, many of their own colleagues don't even know they're involved. Shaw is a deeply wounded character, having lost his wife and much of his former life as he struggles to bring down bad guys through complex undercover assignments.

The two projects are the latest in TNT's aggressive strategy to ramp up it's original content.  Both are slated to premiere later in 2009.  In the meantime, watchout for the return of "The Closer" on January 26th at 9pm eastern!

This is a tough one... Time Heals from John Masius who produced and wrote a lot of Dead Like Me is a plus 20. But Jada Pinkett Smith in the lead role is usually a minus 10 for me. I guess I'll wait for your review, if you are doing a screener.

The cop show has more potential to get my attention. Undercover ops often do.
