What's Brewin' in TV - Jackman to Host Oscars, 'Idol' Won't Give Back and More!

  • The Academy made an interesting choice for host this year: Hugh Jackman. That's right, Wolverine himself.  After the awful ratings they recieved last year, I s'pose this is their way of shaking things up by hiring this year's "Sexiest Man Alive" (People magazine).  The Aussie actor has never hosted the Oscars before, but he did recieve an Emmy for hosting the Tony Awards in 2004. source
  • Along with yesterday's schedule change, it seems "American Idol" execs may have decided to hold off on "Idol Gives Back" this year.  Of course this is all rumor for the time being, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was true.  With the current state of the economy and having done the charity show 2 years in a row, it makes sense to hold off on asking the public for dough this season.  The rest of the rumor is they'll bring it back next year.  We'll see!  source
  • Lauren Graham ("Gilmore Girls") is making a come back to TV for the first time since her show was taken off the air.  She's signed a deal with ABC to star/produce in a new half hour comedy written by Alex Herschlag ("Will & Grace").  In the new series she will play a "self-help specialist who helps other women lower their stress levels, but finds herself in need of some help after her boyfriend breaks up with her." source
  • For those of you wondering if you get another season of "My Big Redneck Wedding", have no fear, CMT has greenlighted season 3.  Not only have they O.K.'d the new episodes, they've ordered a whopping 16 of them (double last season).  The show features Tom Arnold as the host as he shows us some "over-the-top" weddings of "down-home country couples."  source
