Lawsuits Abound - 'Gilmore Girls' sues WBTV who sues CBS

'Tis the season to sue!  While we were all spending time with family and spreading good cheer, it looks like some TV execs got a little lawsuit happy.

Just a couple days ago, Warner Bros. Television filed a $49 million  suit against CBS, saying that the network has refused to pay "agreed-upon fees for airing the hit comedy 'Two and a Half-Men'."

It was filed in Los Angeles Court and says that part of CBS' agreement to air "Men" for seasons 5 & 6 was to pay WBros a "defecit recoupment" (pay up on licensing fees and reimburse the studio for production costs) if the show reached specific milestone ratings in season 4...which it has.

"CBS has reaped the benefits of the tremendous success of 'Two and a Half Men" but wants to deny Warner Bros. the right to its agreed-upon share," the complaint argues.

Meanwhile, about a day later, executive producer of "Gilmore Girls", Gavin Polone, has filed a suit of his own against Warner Bros.  He claims that the producing company was guaranteed a percentage of the money 'Girls' earned after costs were deducted and that he was underpaid.

There are no exact numbers on that one yet but apparently the lawsuit asks for "tens of millions of dollars" in damages.

I dunno, it's all a bunch of legal hoopla to me and I don't pretend to understand, but I do find it interesting that these two suits came so close together.
