Big news for any Grey's Anatomy fans out there. Speculation is that Dr. Erica Hahn's (Brooke Smith) gay relationship didn't sit well with NBC execs and they've decided to take her off the show altogether. In an interview with EW Brooke says:
I was very excited when they told me that Erica and Callie were going to have this relationship. And I really hoped we were going to show what happens when two women fall in love and that they were going to treat it like any heterosexual couple on TV. And so I was surprised and disappointed when they just suddenly told me that they couldn't write for my character anymore.
Of course, NBC was quick to say it wasn't the relationship at all. Shonda Rhimes, writer for Grey's, had this to say:
"Brooke Smith was obviously not fired for playing a lesbian. Clearly it's not an issue as we have a lesbian character on the show - Calliope Torres.
She goes on to explain that it was the lack of chemistry between the two characters that did Brooke in. There was no "magic" between them.
Don't know yet who will be replacing the lost character but chances are the other half of the couple (Calliope Torres) will get a new love interest.
