YouTube has finally decided to take the plunge and offer up some of your old favorite TV shows as content including Beverly Hills 90210 and Star Trek. According to execs, they're looking to break away from the short vids and expand into longer programming because users say so. Also because viewing TV content on network websites has become such a huge hit.
"This is about giving the community what they want, said Jordan Hoffner, YouTube's director of content partnerships, YouTube "Plus, we're not blind to the growth of long form on other sites."
Of course, that can't be all there is to it. I mean, a company doing something just because we say so? Nah. With longer content and television programming comes the advertisers. Google had a hard time cashing in on the average Joe (six-pack) home video and with sites like Hulu hitting the ground running, YouTube must have realized the potential there.
Oh, and this also means they'll be implementing those pre-roll ads. You know the ones that run for 30 seconds before the content does?
IMO, it's only a matter of time before we're tuning in to YouTube TV.
