Welcome to the most frequently asked questions one or two people have asked me.
Why Arts & Dafts?
My definition of art is entirely different from yours I bet. Here I share my personal views and interests on the subject, and that can get a little out of control. I don't have a lot of boundaries. That's where the "daft" part comes in. Plus, it's just a very clever title and Daft happens to be my mother's maiden name.
I'm an artist. Can I submit my work for a feature?
Do
snozzberries taste like snozzberries? Heck yes you can submit your
work. I'd love it if you did. Email me anytime with your details
(ie - website, specific work you'd like featured, any info you want
included).
How long have you been blogging?
Thanks for asking! I've actually been at it since 2002. A year after I graduated from college, I found myself in that place we all find ourselves. The ol' "what the hell am I gonna do now" place. So I blogged. I've always loved writing, and nearly got a degree in it until I realized I didn't need one to write. So I got one in Arts Management. But that's beside the point. I blogged about this and that, but I never could fit all of my interests into one place and probably went through about 5 before A&D. Then, on January 1, 2008 (how freakin' convenient is that anniversary date?) I created this place with the help of my awesome mom. Nearly 3 years later and still going strong.
How long have you been a photographer?
I don't know. Forever? But I haven't been concentrating on it professionally until the last couple of years. You can actually buy some of my prints at RyPepper.com if you'd like.
What do you photograph?
I don't have a solid answer for this. The bottom line is, I shoot what I see. Musicians, the park, flowers, garbage, theater, headshots, my cats. Whatever strikes me at the time. Or whatever someone asks me to shoot.
What kind of camera do you use?
A Nikon D90. I currently own the 18-200mm VR lens and the 50mm 1.8. Saving up for an external flash and of course... more lenses.
Will you shoot my headshots/band/theater production/art/oddly shaped mole?
I sure will! Of course, I don't really have the dough to travel so you'll have to be in the NYC area. Contact me and we'll work out the details!
Did I see your photos in the New York Times?
Oh my god, you saw that? That's so cool. (here and here)
Is Ry short for something?
Nope. I was named after the amazing guitarist Ry Cooder. (We are usually instant friends if you guess that before I tell you.) Also, my middle name comes from the amazing painter Georiga O'Keefe.
Can I call you Ry Bread?
Sure, but first of all, it's Rye bread and second of all, I've heard it before. Especially with Pepper as a last name. For over 10 years I've had 5 bucks ready for the next person who can come up with something original. The odds are not in your favor.
Got any more questions? Send them my way!
