These are cookies my mom would make every Christmas when
we were kids,
and I've continued the tradition with mine.
2 1/4 cups flour
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 cup butter or margarine
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
Heat oven to 375
Sift flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder together in
a mixing bowl. With a pastry blender or two knives, cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture is
full of very fine lumps. Measure the egg into a measuring cup. A large egg will measure 1/4 cup; if it doesn't,
add water to the 1/4 cup line. Add egg and vanilla and beat well. Fill cookie press; form cookies on ungreased
cookie sheets. If desired, decorate with colored sugars or sprinkles before baking.
Bake 10-12 minutes.
Yield: 5-6 dozen
