Tell a Friend

I spend way too much time at the theaters.
I'm a slave to the Hollywood Visionaries.  God help me.

Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld

Written by Brent Maddock, Jeffrey Price, Peter S. Seaman,
S.S. Wilson, based on a story by Jim Thomas & John Thomas

Starring Will Smith, Kevin Kline,
Kenneth Branagh, Salma Hayek, Ted Levine

My Advice: Rent it

Rating: out of

Two of the best federal law enforcements officers in 1860's America have just come nose to nose. Jim West (Smith) is an impetuous brawler who lives by his gun. Artemus Gordon (Kline) is a master of disguise and gadgetry. They both work alone, at least until President Grant orders them to join forces and stop the evil "Bloodbath" McGrath (Levine) along with whoever is funding his plot to kidnap brilliant scientists (and in some cases behead them).

I liked this film. Maybe it's just me but I found it an entertaining romp, and sometimes that's all one is looking for. Kline is brilliant, as he always is and Smith pulls off his Anti-West in fine fashion. The only thing I really could not tolerate was Salma Hayek and her lack of relevance to the storyline. Kenneth Branagh, who plays the paraplegic villain Dr. Loveless, has a great time doing the part and pulls it off in the over the top, ala Jim Carrey, style of acting I felt the part deserved.

Don't go into this movie expecting much. It's not meant to deliver that way. If you're looking for lighthearted entertainment, with occasional gags and amusing one liners, this is the flick for you. If you're looking for substance,'s not out there.
