about Jan Karon

In 1988, Jan Karon left an award-winning advertising career to go home again -- or at least somewhere very like home. A native of the tiny mountain town of Lenoir, North Carolina, Karon had spent most of her adult life working as an advertising executive in Raleigh, New York City, and San Francisco. However, after more than 30 successful years in the business, she felt unhappy and unfulfilled. She quit her job, sold her home in Raleigh, and bought a house in the mountain resort village of Blowing Rock. It was here that Jan Karon started to write novels.

Karon began writing a story set in the village of Mitford, which she modeled after Bowling Rock. Published in 1994, At Home in Mitford, Karon's first book in the Mitford series, was nominated for an Abby by the American Booksellers Association in 1996, 1997, and again in 1998. Karon's fans have increased with the publication of each subsequent book in the series, and A New Song is the sixth book in the bestselling Mitford series.
