Unfortunately... mtj... I think it's a bit deeper than your post. It's really about where we all are today..and the injustices that are felt by many... that have contributed to where we all are today. We can't ignore the past... it still impacts us all today. This country has been trying to "adjust" and make up for the past... but it hasn't worked. Hence the divide that still exists.

    Mini,
    with all due respect,
    I disagree.
As long as people like Gates,
who keep dragging around the past,
    exist...
We will not come to a "present" agreement of terms.
    Where we all live now,
is not about what happened years ago.
And as long as people like Gates keep making our "today",
    about the crimes of yesterday,
    we stay stagnant.
The move to racial equality is not served by people like Gates,
    who still scream RACISM,
when that is really not what happened.
And that is really not what happened in this situation.

mtj.. I'm not supporting Gates..(I think Gates was VERY wrong in how he reacted (as reported)). With that said, I lean towards thinking/believing that there are more nuances to this debate/event/whatever. I thought Crowley did a fantastic job (yesterday's press conference)... And my instinct is to support his POV. But.. I also recognize that my POV, as a white female... differs from ... perhaps a black female. Just trying to say that there must be "circle" in the middle that we can try to find..

And I agree with you Mini.
But that "circle" is not supported by men like Gates who
    keep mouthing off,
about things that are not worth mouthing off about.
    Gates was not singled out.
    Gates was not "racially profiled".
And yet he yelled RACISM, where it did not apply.
As long as that keeps happening, we will not have the
    understanding between races,
    religions and the rest...
    that we should.
Think about the different way this could have happened,
if Gates had not gone off on his tangent about past crimes.
They did not apply in this situation.
And that, is why...in my opinion,
this situation just led to more difference,
    instead of more togetherness.

And just to keep this thread going,LOL... I submit that as long as we have people like Rush Limbaugh saying things like this... we also will not have "understanding" between races, religions and the rest.

As usual, Limbaugh missed the mark.
And I stand by my original comment, Barry blew it on this one.
No comment would have been so much better than his "stupidly" remark.
However, he did his best to make that better and to provide an atmosphere where the issue could be discussed.
Although from the photographs, I'm thinking ole loud mouth Gates did a bit of preaching.
The real shame in all this, is that this was not a "racial" issue.
The same thing would have happened if Crowley responded to a call where a white man was trying to break into his own house.
Except the white man would not have gone into an insane, unjustified tirade.
