The NRA is one of the sticky wickets of US govt. where they openly funnel millions of dollars into GOP campaigns and which makes such legislators beholden to the gun lobby in order to assure the money flows into their next re-election. A very sad state of affairs.

I have suspected that if a dictatorship were to arise in the US, it would have to be one that appeases gun owners, and to do that he or she would have to use the NRA to his or her advantage. People are too familiar to the classic dictatorship where the dictator uses the government and its laws to enforce his will, this time he is pitting the common citizen against each other. In either case, it's propaganda that keeps the people loyal, not whether or not the people have guns.

Interesting that some polling shows that 92% of Americans (including gun owners) do support sensible weapons reforms. When a majority of police departments across the country express concern that private citizens, not just criminal elements...sometimes have more firepower available than law enforcement than they do has to say something that there is something wrong. The NRA is certainly in lock-step with the gun companies who's whole focus is on sales.

Also, the gun lobby tries to tweak the original words of the 2nd. Adm. and say a "well regulated militia" means everyday folks should have the same rights to all armaments as the military or police have......JUST in case private citizens need to wage a second Civil War! So, what else should it mean? Given the fact that when the Constitution was written and the 2nd adm, only pertained to muskets...should people be allowed possess much more massive mega-injuring devices, too?Tanks, nukes, whatever? The argument is ludicrous on all points.

Do we honestly believe that people who actively oppose the government by trying to start some sort of "revolution" will be seen under a positive light?
Just look at how we treat rioters in this country.

Some do think a revolution, etc., is justified....just look at the momentum (albeit probably not a majority...or so I thought) that's been circulating for a few years for Texas to succeed. After the EU vote I did see Mike Cornett (mayor of OKC) say that he was not surprised by the vote and that even Texas might get 51% vote to secede. Given the anti-immigration rhetoric of Trump that is ginning things up maybe it could be more a possibility now.
