This is great news (ImHO)! Taking a large-scale look at DNA population mapping for SLE Lupus could have some huge benefits for everyone involved with Lupus, particularly, of course, the people who have it.

I think that they'll end up finding dramatic connections to not only certain populations, but to certain other markers and indicators as well. Perhaps some only guessed at before, and some never imagined.

It's almost a relief that somebody is finally doing this. I actually wrote to 23andMe once to ask why there wasn't a Lupus cohort in the numbers that they presented -- back before the FDA made them stop publishing "medical" data.

The only drawback here is that 23andMe only includes its own data. Maybe Pfizer will buy in with the other amateur DNA databases too, like the one that is building.
