So, I watched this film because I try to see every Oscar-nominated performance and I was curious to see how Jacki Weaver rated in the supporting actress role.

This is an Australian film about a family that is also a gang of thugs and robbers, and they are sort of initiating their younger nephew who has had to move into their home after his mother dies. I actually found the movie pretty engrossing ... it is well paced and has some good performances and gripping drama.

That being said, I don't know that Jacki Weaver did a whole lot in the film. I know people have been nominated for less, but I am certain it is a scene near the end of the film where she is plotting something terrible that earns the nod. It is a great scene, but I don't know if I found it to be quite enough to earn an Academy Award nod. Either way, it was a good performance and she has no chance of winning, so who cares, right?

This is a good rental. I'd give it a B+.
