Post Re: How the dems lied to the American People about obama care

A majority of people also voted for Barack Obama and the Democrats in the last election precisely because they wanted health care reform.

I am mad that we didn't get a public option... but at least we got the ball rolling.

The problems with Medicare and Medicaid is the SAME problem affecting all of us, no matter what kind of health care we have- the profit margin that mandates higher and higher costs!

And every time A Democrat tries to bring up actually doing anything about it- your party screams "death panels!"

So what are we supposed to do Bigeasy? You don't want single payer health care, you don't want any govt. health care, you don't want any discussion about whether or not what we're paying for is either cost-effective or right, and you don't want any infringement on private insurance company profits.

Doesn't that pretty much back us into a corner?

they didn't want what was crammed down our throats during the night with dishonesty and that is the problem...

"we will just have to pass it to see what is in it" is that what you call honest governing?

lying about the costs? calling it deficit neutral? saying you can keep your coverage? saying it will reduce costs? all those lies that are now being exposed? and you wonder why every day in poll after poll the people are saying no?

maybe making things worse is defined in your dictionary as a fix but not in mine

there are other ways other than another entitilement program when we can't even agree or figure out how we are going to pay of the other ones already floundering financially... doctors and pharmacies are saying no more and more everyday to medicaid and medicare patients... glad to see you consider them successful... wow...
The ones "pushing against" it are stupid people who don't know a thing about how this all works and want what they have. The reason pharmacists and doctors don't want to take Medicare is because the payment have been slashed to nothing!!! Just like Medi-caide, it doesn't pay squat either. I know because I worked for my doctor for a while between jobs for 4 months!! His opinion was that the only thing that will save all of the mess was SINGLE PAYER so he knew he would get paid! If he takes your "private" insurance they can deny the claim and he doesn't get paid except for the co-pay. I don't know if the 65% quoted by BE is correct or not, but if it is the reason is that WE, that would mean almost everyone I know, wants SINGLE PAYER.

Health care, electricity and oil have NO business being in the "for profit" sector.

and obama care called for further slashing of medicare and medicaid payments to health care providers but then later recanted.. that was one of the many lies they concocted in order to say it would be deficit neutral...

we've seen and read about the horror stories of socialized medicine and we are not stupid... and your damned right if you think I don't want to pay for illegal aliens health care.. damned right I want mine and I pay through the nose for it and I don't want my services cut nor my premiums increased... they are high enough already...

all the people in the health care industry I've talked to has said we will be seeing less care, more waiting lines and doctor shortages... what an improvement...

why do we want our govt who can't even fiscally manage soc sec, medicaid and medicare taking over 1/6th of our economy which is health care? why do we trust them when there is documented evidence of lie after lie after lie?

no business eh? hey granny.. go google marxism/commuism and see how many things you would be in agreement with ... why do you think Americans pay less for energy than most any other nation if not all nations in the world? where else but the U.S. can a person diagnosed with heart blockage be in surgery in one week? why are out cancer survival rates tops in the world?

So... you've lost your health care coverage Bigeasy? This is all doom and gloom, as usual, ad nauseum.

You bitch about the high cost of Medicare and Medicaid yet you rail against Obama for trying to control costs. You bitch about waste and fraud in those programs yet you scream "death panels" whenever someone seriously wants to look at cost-effectiveness. You bitch about the high cost of your health care right now... yet you are totally against doing anything to bring those costs down, such as single payer.

The pity is that you just don't realize that you are ALREADY paying for our dysfunctional system. Or that our energy costs are really much, much higher than just the cost of a gallon of gas. And, yes, we are all paying for them right now. Things are much more complex, you see, than just rightwing talking points.

    Socialized medicine a train wreck?

I am a Canadian. We have universal health care. It is not a perfect system, but I don't think you'd find too many Canadians who would trade it for the US system. In fact if I were to walk outside my house right now and ask the first 100 people I came across on the street which system they would prefer, I would wager a large sum of money they would all say ours. Yes Health Care eats up a large part of our governmentís budget... Yes sometimes there can be waiting periods for some 'non-essential' surgeries, or to get in to see some types of specialists. And that is unfortunate. It can always be improved upon, and they are always looking for way to improve it, but all in all, I think itís pretty good.

In British Columbia, where I live, you pay 54 bucks a month for basic health care. Many employers will pay this for you, but if they don't, and you are considered low-income... the government covers it for you. It is law that everybody has this coverage. Everybody gets care, no matter what you make. You get cut, need stitches... You break a leg, need a cast... Your appendix bursts, you need surgery... You get cancer, need chemo... You get the care and you don't have to mortgage your house to pay for it. Its comfort and peace of mind to know you will not burden your family with crippling debt should you fall sick. Itís a comfort to know if you are gravely wounded you will get help from the nearest hospital and not be shuffled around until you find one that your insurance company approves of. My mother had to have extended hospital stays twice over the past year and a half, cost to our family... zero dollars.

If you want to know how Canadians feel about their health care system you need only know this. A couple of years ago there was a television program on the CBC called "The Greatest Canadian". It was a competition of sorts, where all Canadians could call in and nominate who they thought was the Greatest Canadian in our countries history. Politicians, Inventors, Athletes, you neighbor down the street... anybody could be nominated. The top ten went on to have a their storey told in more detail, and then there was another vote. The final nominees included Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone... Frederik Banting, the discoverer of insulin... Terry Fox... an inspirational man who ran across Canada after losing a leg to cancer to raise awareness and money for research... Of course being Canada Wayne Gretzky was on the list...

The winner, as voted on by the Canadian people... Tommy Douglas. The father of Medicare... He is the Man who is credited with bringing Universal Health Care to Canada. Universal Health Care is something Canadians are proud of.

I could be wrong, but from the outside looking it, it appears as if Health Care in the United States is treated like any other business... ran the way businesses are ran... to make money... thatís a shame. In Canada we believe access to Health Care is a fundamental and basic human right. It may mean higher taxes but I would never complain about my tax dollars going to help human being receive the medical treatment they require to live. It is a moral obligation of a society to take care of its most vulnerable. Iíve never really understood the close-mindedness you see from so many Americans regarding Social Healthcare. Itís not evil, and I think many of those (politicians and such) who try so hard to convince you that it is probably have an agenda. I would be wary. They probably make money off the American style Health-care/Health-Insurance, or are buddies with somebody who does, and so they try to scare you from wanting to change it.

My country has socialized medicine. My country is not going bankrupt, and we have a two year longer life expectancy than the States... but what do I know...

Thank you, Coker for posting from your own perspective as a citizen of Canada and to educate some in the US.

It's so ridiculous the lies and half-truths being waged in the US as to how BADDD healthcare is for those who live in countries, like Canada, etc.

"They" say Canada, the UK and other nations have such horrible heathcare they RUN to the US for treatment.

Of course NO heathcare system is perfect, but inclusion for all is much better than only inclusion for those who can pony up the dollars for those who can afford private care medicine.

So many in this country are without and SO many buy into the lies that it cannot work for the US. Pitiful!

In the US we have people a good deal of the working class population who cannot afford high cost private insurance premiums and who live with disease, without basic medical care for their children and who die or live without treatment ... every year simply because they can't afford either insurance or to go to the doctor.

Thanks again for giving some REAL insight into this issue!!! :-)

Welcome corker and thanks for contributing! It's always good to hear from someone who enjoys health care as a right- which I believe it should be.

You are absolutely right- health care in the United States is treated as a business... which means that you can, indeed, have the very best health care- IF you can afford it! And millions and millions of Americans can't. It's all about protecting the very hefty profits of the private insurers... which they shroud in talk of "freedom" and "individual choice", etc... to manipulate the very people who could benefit from national health care themselves into not supporting it!

Gee, 54 bucks a months sounds heavenly to me for basic health care... and I'm sure it would to most Americans. I would gladly wait a while to see non-emergency specialists... or have non-emergency surgery, if I could pay 54 bucks a month instead of what we do pay.

As Catstrack said... it's really pitiful that the United States still... still, doesn't have some form of national health care! You don't know how many of our citizens envy countries like yours that do.
