This movie was great. It is the story of "Bad" Blake, a broken-down country singer who is trying to find success and salvation after years of being at rock bottom. The story may not be the most original, but the performances elevate it to a higher level. It reminds me very much of "The Wrestler" both in themes and tone, but I think this movie had slightly more heart. Jeff Bridges is a revelation in a performance that packs an emotional punch with no trace of vanity. He truly deserves the best actor prize this year. (Plus he and Colin Farrell did their own singing in the movie - not too shabby!!)

Maggie Gyllenhaal is also really good as his love interest in the film - she deserves her supporting actress nod. Colin Farrell has a nice turn in a small role that could have been a cliche, but he plays it with a complexity that makes his character likeable. Overall, I'd give this an "A-." Well worth a watch (and if you are like me, you'll be singing the songs from the film for days to come!!)
