I found that totally creepy.

And how dumb was the Dad?
He knows his kid can read minds,
and yet it never crosses his mind that the kid will
figure out the lie he was told about his mother?
Bad writing there.

The kid says his mother lives in Maryland.
When they arrive at her house, the giant Fringe letters say SPRINGFIELD.
Springfield is in Virginia.
I'm guessing from that ending sequence, that Massive Dynamics now has "custody" of the kid.
For further experimentation, I would guess.
