Week 9: Extravagant stage look inspired by Bob Mackie

This week the designers challenge is to create a stage look inspired by Bob Mackie but for singing sensation Christina Aguilera. Bob Mackie is known for his costume like designs and flamboyant creations. He’s designed for Tina Turner, Cher, Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross and Madonna just to name a few. He is known as the Sultan of Sequins.


Heidi reminded everyone that there is no immunity for the duration of the competition.


The Good:


Althea had a beautiful dress but I felt the back was too long. It reminded me of a wedding dress train. The judges like the construction of her dress. She was safe tonight.


Irina’s mini dress was ok to me but like Nicolas pointed out during the show, Irina has a real attitude problem. She really does look at her fellow competitors as if they are only good for scraping the gum off of the bottom of her shoes. Irina is safe.


Nicolas’ design was very nice to me, short, light and flows well. The judges really liked it as well as Christina. She felt she could dance, and move well in it. Tim thought it reminded him of the dress Nicolas won his challenge with. Nicolas is safe this week.


I loved Carol Hannah’s black dress with feathers. The judges really liked her too.


The Bad:


Logan made a zebra print dress draped in a fur-like sleeveless jacket. Christina likened it to a caveman like look. The judges weren’t impressed.


Gordana and Shirin struggled with this challenge. I believe the judges felt like Gordana kind of threw something together. Heidi said Gordana was lucky she had immunity this week because she did so poorly. I wonder if she didn't have immunity, if things would have been different.


Christopher’s design was really bad to the judges. His retro Cyndi Lauper inspired vision of his design looked like the out fit Christina had worn for the video “Lady Marmalade”. They ( judges) were disappointed that he made a been-there-done-that look. I’m so surprised that Chris has really been getting hammered these past few weeks. His earlier designs were so good and suddenly he's doing so bad. I don’t know what’s going on with him.


Shirin scrapped her first design after Tims comments and her second effort didn‘t do much better. Shirin found herself in the bottom 2 with Christopher and eventually found herself out of the competition.

Although I liked Carol Hannah’s dress I thought Nicolas would win this week.

I liked Carol Hannah's dress too, but Christina wears really "kooky" outfits when I see her on TV, so I thought maybe she would like some of the "kookier" ones, like Christopher's. I, too, dont know what's going on with Christopher, he had some nice looks at the beginning, now he seems to be second-guessing himself and doesnt seem to know what look to go for.
Irina is arrogant, I like Althea and Carol Hannah, they seem to be enjoying their time on the show. I am really enjoying the "Models" show that comes on after "PR"...its fun to see the girls commenting on the clothes they have to wear and to see the pressure they are under...the models who are left, seem really nice...the "nasty" girls are gone.

You are absolutely right about Carol Hannah and Althea. It's nice to see them laughing, smiling and really enjoying themselves. Good or bad, they seem to really have fun.

Christophers design efforts have really bothered me a lot. How many more times will the judges give him a chance? He's been very lucky that someone else was slightly worse than he was. I don't know what it will take to get him back on track and focused but I hope he does soon.

Irina Irina Irina. Well, give the girl some credit, she certainly didn't pretend to come here and make friends or chit chat. But I do think she needs to stop being so openly disrespectful to others and I will be glad when someone puts her in check.
