Also from Spoilerfix.com:

05/08 - Damon [Lindelof] said that when the show ends, "All of the character resolutions will be very defined. There is going to be no cut to black. The show for me and Carlton Cuse and J.J. Abrams and all the people writing it-it's not about the Island. The Island is where it takes place. It's about this group of people who crashed on the Island on Sept. 22, 2004 and how they influenced the history of the Island in some ways and had a very significant and pivotal role to play there. You're going to see that role play out, and their fates will all be resolved by the end of the series- that's the story (http://www.spoilerfix.com/lost.php#) that we're telling. In terms of every little bit of minutiae about the Island itself...There will be questions left unanswered after the show ends." Libby's story will not be wrapped up on the show. Said Damon, "I have learned that if you kill someone off the show, they are less likely to cooperate with you." Basically, Cynthia Watros is busy until further notice, and they can't explain Libby without her, at least not in any way that shows her story rather than annoyingly tells her story. What's the takeaway for us fans? Next time you've got Damon cornered, don't waste your breath asking about Libby. Instead, bust his chops about another very important blonde: Claire! Where is that little minx, anyway? Source: Kristin on E!Online (http://www.eonline.com/Gossip/Kristin/)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.
Killing off Libby was pointless.
If they wanted to tell the rest of her story, why did they kill off her character?

I thought she quit so they had to kill her off?

Nope, she didn't quit.
From Wikipedia...

"Two for the Road" was generally well-received by critics who were shocked that Ana Lucia and Libby were killed off. Many people, however, anticipated the two deaths as actresses Michelle Rodriguez (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelle_Rodriguez) and Cynthia Watros (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cynthia_Watros) had widely publicized DUIs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DUI) several months prior to the airing of the episode.[/URL] The producers later claimed in several interviews that the deaths had been planned for over a year. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_for_the_Road_%28Lost%29#cite_note-associated_press-0) The episode was watched by 15.03 million American viewers, which represented a decrease compared to the previous year's rating.[URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_for_the_Road_%28Lost%29#cite_note-Nielsen-2"]

I could see the shock value in killing ana lucia, but ITA that killing libby was pointless. I would have LOVED to see if they would pursue a romantic story with her and hurley.

I agree.
I can see needing Michael to do something as despicable as killing someone to be necessary plot-wise.
But not two people.
And hey, no one but Walt ever found out what Michael did.
I really have to wonder if those DUI's (and other things) factored into this decision, even though the writers say that it didn't.
As a writer, I would have wanted to explore what Hurley's reaction would have been had he found out that Michael killed Libby.

Boy, I'm going to have to go to Lostpedia to do some research. I know other people found out that Michael killed Ana Lucia and Libby. I know Hurley found out Michael killed Libby. I can't remember the episode, though. It had to be in season 4 when Michael came back. I'll check it out and see what I can find!

OK, it happened way back in season 2 in the finale, "Live Together, Die Alone". Jack and Sayid had become suspicious of Michael, so they gave him an unloaded gun. Here's the transcript of Hurley realizing Michael had killed Libby.

JACK: It doesn't matter if we catch him now. [Sawyer and Kate stare at him like he's crazy. Jack looks at Michael] They've already been warned.
SAWYER: What do you mean "warned"?
JACK: Why don't you tell them, Michael?
KATE: Jack.
MICHAEL: I don't know what you're talking about.
JACK: Stop lying! Tell them.
MICHAEL: Tell them what?
JACK: [pushing Michael up against a tree] I know what you're doing, Michael! Now tell them the truth. Tell them!
MICHAEL: It was the only way. They gave me a list.
JACK: What list?
MICHAEL: It had your names on it. I had to bring all 4 of you back, or they said I'd never see my son again!
JACK: Who are they?
MICHAEL: It's like I said—they live in a camp with huts. I swear, that's it.
KATE: You let Henry go?
[Michael nods.]
HURLEY: Did you kill them? Ana Lucia and Libby? Did you?
MICHAEL: I had to, man. I, God, I couldn't find any other way. And Libby was a mistake. I, I didn't have time to think.
HURLEY: But if you did have time—you still would have killed her, right?
MICHAEL: I'm sorry. You understand—I am sorry. I'm sorry. I—my son!
HURLEY: I'm going back.
JACK: No, Hurley. Hurley, you can't!
HURLEY: We're all going to get killed and you knew it! You let us come anyway.
JACK: It's too late to go back now, Hurley. We already caught them following us once. If they don't believe that we trust Michael, they'll kill us all. I'm sorry that I didn't say anything. But you have to know that I would never bring you out here if I didn't have a plan.
SAWYER: What plan?
[COMMERCIAL BREAK]

That was about the extent of Hurley's reaction because Jack, Kate, Sawyer, and Hurley were captured by the Others and then Michael was given the boat and Walt and told how to leave.

Libby was a mistake.
Thor, you rule.
Good on you for digging that one up.
I need to go back and watch that episode again.
Libby was a mistake on many levels, mostly the writers.
Cynthia Watros is still a big old baby in my book, for not agreeing to come back and let her character's story be played out.

ITA!!! she should get over herself and be petty AFTER the show ends. I wish they would cast a look-alike or a younger version of her (like danielle) so we could get the back story!!!

I don't know why she'd be so upset. It obviously is the biggest thing she's ever done and she had a shot at another TV show right away. Now she had a chance to come back and wouldn't take it? Getting paid to work in Hawaii isn't good enough? Sheesh!!! :D

ITA!!! it's not like she's currently working on anything. it's not like anyone ever heard of her before or after. if I were her, I'd be MORE than willing to run back if they called.

In show business, there is a term called "career breaker".
That refers to an action that haunts an actor or actress for years.
I believe Cynthia Watros has officially executed one of these moves by her actions regarding LOST.
Anyone in charge of casting future projects that she may want to be involved with, is going to take her LOST actions into consideration.
She already has a reputation as a problem child from her years on "The Guiding Light". Apparently she and Kim Zimmer got into a physical altercation that was caught on tape.
