And Esau is the smoke monster, then why doesn't Locke/Esau know about Ben's vision of Alex?
Something is fishy about that.

How do we know he doesn't know about that? Fake Locke was asking Ben questions, but it didn't mean he didn't know the answer. He may have done that just to fool Ben. When Locke asked Ben if he was ready to do whatever he said, it may have just been to make sure Ben was still going to do it... and that he remembered what 'Alex' had told him. He may have needed to see if Ben believed it was her and would do what he wanted.

That is very possible.
I was watching the ending again and I was paying particular attention to the interaction between Jacob and Esau/Locke.
There was something odd about how Esau/Locke bent over dying Jacob to hear what he was saying.
Almost like he knew it was all a game, and Jacob wasn't really dying.
Also, Jacob said something interesting to Ben about the tapestry.
He said, "It takes a very long time when you're making the thread. But that's the point, I guess."
Ben also said something interesting about Esau/Locke.
Ben said that he got marched in there, as if he was Moses.
Another Egyptian reference.
And after Ben said that, Jacob and Esau/Locke exchanged an odd glance.
I just don't know how they are going to wrap all this up in 17 episodes.

I don't know that he didnt, it seemed like he did.
Esau (If that is who he is) walked with Ben to the temple thing, then faced Ben as dead daughter Alex, manipulating Ben's guilt over her death. Alex then demanded that Ben obey Locke (Esau), thus ensuring that Ben would do what he asked of him. Pretty underhanded.

Easu/Locke also moved things along for real Locke before he died, sending Ricardus to Locke when their times overlapped.
