Hi Everyone. I would like to ask everyone out there to please keep a very good friend of mine in your prayers. Keegan Langley is the son of close family friends, Sally and Ade. Sally taught my children in their Junior years and the family is a wonderful bunch. Keegan is 17yrs old and has been involved in a very bad minibus accident whilst on a hockey tour. He is in hospital in Johannesburg (family live in Zimbabwe) and is under a chemical-induced coma. They are not having a lot of luck in bringing him out of this state as he has a problem with pressure on his brain and whenever they try to wake him, the pressure takes over and things go very wrong. Please, Please, as I am not able to give my friends support in person, I am trying to rally as much prayer support for them and would really appreciate your prayers to add to mine.
Thank you all and God bless.

I am praying for Keegan. I pray God will give the Dr.'s wisdom concerning him. And he will be healed. Why is it they haven't operated on his brain? Perhaps this is what is needed? I mean if they can remove the pressure this might help? I pray they are wise enough to do this. God Bless and keep us posted OK?:winkq:

Thank you all so much. Julie, they can't operate on keegan as it is too dangerous at this time. The specialists have been draining fluid off his brain but the pressure keeps building up again. Got an email from his Mom today and they are going to try and bring him out of the coma again and see if he can do it this time round. Will keep you all informed on what happens. Your prayers will definitely help him and his family. Thanks

Hi All. Firstly thank you for your prayers and support. Have had an email from Keegan's Mom and it seems like it is going to take quite a bit longer than they first anticipated to wake him up successfully, but, together with prayer and faith, I am sure he will get there. This is the situation at the present time...
"This week has seen efforts to gradually reduce Keegan’s medication. He has responded with very slight movement, but remains on reduced levels of sedation and adrenalin. The risk of infection continues to rank high on the agenda.
I do not think that he is able to wake up yet...Nor do I think he really wants to ... it is sore ..but sedation is nearly off and all other drugs are finished. There is vague flickering of eye lids and twitching of mouth ... but there is nobody home yet!... he is still sedated and unconscious.
However, he is still on a respirator because he needs to be, but we have seen that he is able to take gasps. That does not mean that he is able to do it all by himself, but it shows that he is getting there. He still needs as much help as possible to ensure that he heals well.
His arms move...slowly... because he is now growing and reconnecting nerve endings and getting them to work. Everything is slow, but the messages are getting there... slowly... but he is still not using them with intent because he is not awake yet."

Have an update on Keegan from his mom. Sounds more encouraging, a long haul but at least there are more positive signs.

"He is off everything except the respirator which is helping him now and not doing it for him. No sedation and no adrenaline. This is now cold turkey. We see he is coming out when the heart beat and breathing increases. We have to speak very slowly and clearly and have come to realise that he acknowledges us when he yawns and swallows. The after 3 mins he falls into a deep sleep for another hour on his own.

so there is progress! please keep up the prayers." love, Sally

Thanks to you all, will keep you updated. Prayer is a powerful thing.

You know this is so encouraging for them! I will continue to pray his daily activities will improve. In time he won't need all that and God can and will heal him completley!:winkq:

Hi All. Have an update on keegan from his Mom. He is still unconcious but they can see some differences and he appears at times to be looking at them although not focusing. All in all things seem to be going forward, although very slowly. This is what Sally had to say...
"Today a permanent shunt was put into his head and all other drains removed. A huge step. This pipework will stay with him for life. the pipe runs from his head into his neck into his sternum and the excess brain fluid that he does not need, empties into the stomach
It would appear that there are many people out there that have shunts. Rugby, even touch rugby is out of bounds,as any jolt will not be a pleasant feeling but could cause a blockage and further damage."

A really long haul for this very special boy, please keep up the prayers, I know he will overcome this with help from God and all of us. xxxx

Thank you all for your prayers for Keegan. I have had an update from his Mom. Although there is still a long road to follow, things are moving forward in small steps. I do believe that Keegan is not coming out of the coma purely so that his body can heal with the least amount of pain and discomfort and that he will open his eyes when he, and the Lord, is ready. Here is the latest news :
"Doctors at MilPark Hospital have now approved Keegan’s discharge from hospital, so investigations are underway to identify the most suitable rehab. home for him.
Whilst this is all positive, it DOES NOT signify any sudden improvement in his condition. The doctors have now said that there is nothing more that they can do for him medically, and therefore the various therapists must swing into action. He remains in a coma for most of the time, only waking up occasionally, with very limited response, for brief spells.
They have had him sitting up but found that he was not so comfortable in this position, even experiencing more difficulty in opening his eyes than when he is prone.
However, he is off all machines, living on his own, and his trachea incision is virtually healed over. His arms have responded to the Botox injections are now not so firmly clasped up towards his throat".

Lynjay this is a long haul thing. I have a friend who's daughter has been paralized for a year now. They are just finally getting ready to do surgery to remove some things etc. and add more things to make her life more comfortable. I pray only that Keegan will have the best help possible and give his family the strength to deal with all this. And his possible complete healing as well! Amen. Thanks for keeping us posted.:winkq:
