Rescue

It's been made pretty clear that the freighties are not there to rescue the people on the island.
So any ideas on who will?
Considering the fact that Desmond is not one of the "O-6" I don't think it's Penny.
And why only six of them?
And why are they lying about everyone else being dead?

I think Skipper and Gilligan and the rest of that gang will be out on a 3 hour cruise and end up on the island. The Losties will take their boat, which isn't that big, and sail towards the bearing Ben told Michael to go towards! :D

Seriously, we don't know that Desmond doesn't get off the island. He wouldn't be part of the O-6 because he wasn't on the plane. He still might get off the island. I don't think it's Penny, either, but it could be.

Hmmmm........is Desmond's boat still available? Did that get destroyed? Could it be they'd use that and have Michael with them and he could steer it the same way he did the other boat? Remember also that they made up a story that 8 had originally survived the plane crash. Claire must be one made up fatality because she would have been alive long enough to have Aaron. Who will be the other one? Why the need for that one?

I never thought that about Desmond, but you're right.
Whatever they escape in would have to be small enough to only allow six people.
But what is up with the lie about the rest of them?
Or do all the remaining people on the island NOT WANT TO BE FOUND?
At the current time, when they are mistakenly waiting for the freighter to rescue them, they all look ready to go to me.
I guess we wait and see.

I think the other of the eight will be jin. afterall, sun got pregnant on the island.

Good point, Jin will probably be the 8th. The question on him will then be if he dies or is still on the island.

I predict that jin will tell sun that they will go together; but when there's no room in the boat (or however they escape), he will volunteer to stay behind. she will protest, but in the end, she will leave.

as for desmond's boat, wasn't that the boat that michael and walt took to leave? I thought it was the boat that libby lent him, that he crashed onto the island in, that sayid used to follow kate and company, then michael took off in. am I missing another boat? did ben give michael one of the others' boats?

Yes, Ben gave Michael another boat.

Libby did give a boat to Desmond and that's how he made it to the island and then tried to leave. That was the same boat that Sayid, Jin, and Sun went after the Others with. Sun was on the boat and shot that one woman to get off of the boat, and then the Others took the boat, didn't they? I don't remember it being destroyed, was it? I think the Others still have it, don't they? Can anybody remember it getting destroyed?

i don't remember des's boat getting destroyed. it probably did, but wasn't mentioned. but there is another boat out there. remember jack, jules, ben and the others used that one to get to the other island back from the hydra station one. no one knows where that one is. unless if it was near the sub then locke blew that one up as well.

That is true. There definitely is that boat, if not two. Then Karl had that canoe, but I don't think they could fit six survivors on there.

Very good you all. I had forgotten about that boat used by Ben, Jules and the Others to get from the Hydra back to the island.
I think the Others have Desmond's boat as well.
They took it after Sun shot that woman.
Sun jumped off the boat and swam safely to Jin.
And remember, when that woman told Ben that Sun, Jin and Sayeed were out there on a boat, Ben said, "I want that boat".
