This is very strange coming from conservatives. They seem to have given us this whole thing about the importance of abstinence until marriage, the purity culture that girls are often forced into, the sanctity of marriage, and sex being only for reproduction and marriage being necessary for the proper raising of children. However, when you factor in people like Donald Trump, Newt Gingrich, Rudy Giuliani, and Rush Limbaugh, they seem to turn around and act more like liberals when it comes to the importance of sex when it comes to maintaining marriage. When people like that who are serial divorcees criticize the Clinton marriage and say Hillary could not satisfy Bill, it should be obvious that they are talking about Hillary not pleasing him sexually.
The women they divorced obviously were because they were not satisfied sexually by their ex-wives.
And at the same time, I hear this rhetoric from the Abstinence-Only Christian Conservatives that sex is only for reproduction and marriage is to ensure an intact household for the children.
If sex were only for reproduction in conservative circles, then sex should not be a factor when it comes to the success of a marriage among conservatives. And yet here is Rudy Giuliani saying "everybody cheats". I think Conservatives need to think long and hard about their stances on marriage as well as the possibilities of divorce, especially if they are going to use serial divorcees as some sort of example of high morality.

Have they really given up on it; or is it just swept under in the wake of their candidate?

Well said; if you don't mind me saying so.

I wonder if this is just an extension of their assumption that girls are naturally abstinent while boys are naturally promiscuous. Thus at a Trump Rally a supporter could claim pornography is "normal" while asked about what he thinks about his party being against porn.

It also makes me wonder how come in the age of STD epidemics as well as the demonization of abortion and welfare, the conservatives have yet to promote abstinence towards boys, or when they are cooking up conspiracy theories that say groups like Planned Parenthood are sending women out to get themselves pregnant so they could get paid to have an abortion, (I hear there is a similar one involving welfare too) Why aren't the conservatives countering with "If an unmarried woman wants to have sex with you, she is going to kill your unborn child for money. Stay away from such women". Instead they are countering with "Defund Planned Parenthood".
If this were the case, then why should any man have sex with any woman outside marriage? Do conservatives believe that women are that vindictive to do something like that intentionally, and men are that stupid to fall for their traps?

I also have yet to hear any advocate of abstinence condemn rape or things like the Elliot Roger shooting either. I would think that rape and men accepting their virginity should be something up their alley.

Worse; Giuliani says "everybody" has infidelities in their marriages. "Everybody"! He maniacally tosses us all on the Trump bonfire of inanities

It seems to me to be a Conservative, you need to be walking on eggshells. Their definition of "personal responsibility" to gender roles in marriage.
As far as marriage is concerned, on one end you have families like the Duggars and on the other hand, you have people like Trump, Gingrich, Limbaugh, and Giuliani who marry and divorce at will.
Before marriage they tell girls to be abstinent and submissive.
Being able to provide for the family determines the success of a marriage.
They sell a Disney movie view of the world where you need to find true love and your "prince".
Sex seems to be disregarded prior to marriage.
In this case sex does not seem to be a factor when it comes to love, or finding love.
But...
After marriage, sex seems to be one of the determining factors when it comes to the success of a marriage, and now a major determining factor, not the ability of the parents to provide for the family.
In order to satisfy a man (including your search for a potential husband as well as within marriage), you have to satisfy him sexually.
If your husband is not satisfied (sexually of course), he will cheat and divorce you.
Sex and love are now intertwined.

And you wonder why polygamy is still allowed in Islam.
