View Full Version : Bunny nest in our yard. When is it safe to mow?

A cottontail rabbit mom has put her next right, smack in the middle of an open area in our yard. That's fine with us, but I'm concerned about mowing. We'll avoid mowing over it while it's occupied, but -- here's the question -- how long will it be occupied?

I've read online that the babies will leave the nest at around 3 weeks, but do they come back or do they permanently leave?

Anybody here know the answer to this?

Thanks.

The only thing I could find about this online is to mark the nest area with a flag and mow around it. There have been rabbits living for years under the deck next door to me. They eat all of my plants.

Thanks for the tip! Will flag it!

We've had ground hogs (AKA "whistle pigs"!) in the way back for years. Love watching them, but they drive the neighbors nuts. Ground hogs do appreciate a good garden!
