View Full Version : Huggin ban...
I heard that some schools want to ban hugging and hand holding and other PDA in schools. What do you all think of this? I have never seen anything wrong with harmless hand-holding in school or arms linked around each other. We all did that. I must admit I have been taken aback the last few years by all this hugging. Every time I see a group of kids meet each other they end up looking like football players in a huddle. It really bugs me when these kids hug on first meeting someone! What's wrong with a nod or a handshake? I heard on the Today show this morning that some shcool hallways get blocked between classes by all these "hugging chains." Where did this start?
I think "hugging bans" are ridiculous. Who are they going to hire to enforce them?
What will the punishment be?
And don't school administrators have better and more important things to do?
Is this the beginning of our future in sci-fi where everything is cooooold and no one touches? lol!
But in all seriousness, that's absurd. I can't even imagine it to be honest.
Yes Oda, it's "Brave New World" come to life.
When school started there was a problem with the hug circles. if I'm remembering correctly, boys were trapping girls in the middle and trying to touch them. The Principal put a stop to that real quick and tried to ban hugging all together.
The circles, for the most part, have stopped, but the kids are still hugging. (and sneaking a little hand-holding in as well LOL) I don't know where the hugging started. Personally, I think something happens to a middle-school aged kids brain and when they cross the thresh-hold to middle school, the "hugging reflex" kicks in. Oldest BoyChild asked the same thing when he started Middle-School..."What is with all the hugging??" He quit complaining when one of the cheerleaders started hugging him every morning, because he was cute. :)
In the middle school I worked at the ban of PDA includes platonic hugs. BFF can't link arms and walk on school premises; they can't hug each other in greeting. I think it's bullsh!t. Kids getting the crap kicked out of them, verbally harrassed, robbed and the school decides to make mutually agreed upon hugs a no-no??? If I was in 7th grade today I'd stage a hug in: Go ahead, throw me out of school for being ... nice.
Hey Intrepid...weren't you the poster moving to Oklahoma?
Are you here yet?? I'm in Norman and wanted to say hello. :)

Yep! That's me. Hello back at you! But I don't hit the road until Saturday or Sunday (depending on when the movers show up Saturday). I'm taking my time driving out so I expect to be there on the 11th or 12th. I'm going to be in Lawton.
Hello all, when I was in 7th grade (1994) I went to a small Catholic school and they caught two kids making out and actually separated boys and girls at recess! One gender had to be on the grass and one on the asphalt. Every week it switched off. It was pretty ridiculous! How are 12-13 year old supposed to learn to be social if the kept us away from the boys? Craziness
I can totally understand a hugging ban. My friend and I were talking about this (kids hugging) just a few weeks ago. My daughter (almost 20) and her friends all hug hello and kiss in the mouth (girl to girl). My friend said her daughter and friends do the same. My daughter's best friend (a gay male) looks like he is feeling up my daughter when he hugs her hello. My husband said he thinks the kid says he's gay to feel up our daughter, LOL. At my nephew's grad party all the kids were hugging hello. I call it feeling up each other. It's not walking hand in hand or walking arm in arm any more. It's weird. So I'm guessing the schools have to put a stop to it before it is hello sex in the halls. I'm not prudish at all, I know this reads like I am.
Thank you!! You seem to be noticing the same things I am. It's too weird. I was in the park one day and there was a group of teens (about 14-15) and as they introduced each othe they all hugged!! They didn't even know the person they were hugging. It's all too touchy-feely for me.
i can't recall doing this in jr. high or highschool.... i am assuming the ban on plutonic hugs is b/c of kids being gay this is jmo.... b/c then they can say oh we're just friends... shoot when i was in highschool we would sneak kisses but hugging wasn't banned......... i can't ever remember anyone standing in the hall way in a "hug circle"????
