I go to thinking the other day about just how much I like soaps. And I realized, I had never really sat down before and contemplated why before. I personally began watching soaps when I was around 7 with my mom, so I guess being exposed to it early on could be the reason why. But then I thought about why I keep watching them everyday. What is it that makes me want to watch? So I came to the conclusion that I watch it because through the show, you are able to get to know people and just watch how their lives turn out. There are characters that you can connect with and hate with a passion. I think soaps really just involve viewers in their own unique way. Once I figured that out I was curious to see why other people watch soaps. What makes soaps so appealing to you?

I don't think I'm the average soap watcher. I the only soap I watched regularly growing up was "Dark Shadows." I have watched Days on and off for a number of years now. For me, I love the escape it brings. The stories are far-fetched and it gives me an hour a day to just turn off my brain and connect with people I like. I have to like the characters to watch a soap. Right now I FF through most of Days because I don't like the Chelsea/Stephanie "kiddie" storylines. I still stop at my favorites though. I was hooked on Dynasty because it was such trashy fun. I don't like reality TV. I like the escapism.

Years ago I watched the entire NBC lineup. Another World, The Doctors and Days. Then Santa Barbara. Now just Days by default. I've watched Days on and off since 1968.

I started watching when I was in Texas (military spouse) and bored. Now I watch because I know these people. Drop in and eavesdrop which is the reason for drama...vicarious living. Soaps really are a classic form of drama.

I grew up in Germany and they had no soaps there. I started watching when i came here and my son was just a baby . My husband was in the Army and I didn't ahve anything better to do. I only watched "Another World". For some reason the characters appealed to me. I think it's because you can just forget about everything else for a little while and rest your brain. I stopped watching soaps when AW got cancelled .Just couldn't get into another one.
