View Full Version : Gossip Girl
Anyone else check this one out? I have actually been sort of looking forward to it. It's set in NYC (where I live), it's about rick snotty people (which I'm not) and it's about a blog called Gossip Girl. Sounds fun to me!
So the pilot aired last night and as excited as I was to see it, it wasn't...the greatest. IMO. It was your typical set up episode. Here's the people, here's a taste of the drama, here's the not so rich kids who go to school with the rich kids, here's the dick who likes to harass women, so and so cheated, etc etc.
I'm going to give it another try because in my experience, the set up episodes are never really that fantastic, but I do get the feeling this is going to be another OC type show which I was never into...so really the comparison could be way off seeing as how all I knew about the OC was that it was a nighttime soap opera, right?
I can't think of any other nighttime soaps aimed at the OC demographic that are airing right now, so that may give it a good chance. Everything I read about it pre-season was pretty positive. Maybe the weakish start will be a good sign, OC started off pretty high and then sank like a stone in season 2.
You'll have to update me on this, I'm pretty sure I won't be able to add it to my list. :flamingo: (gratuitous flamingo posting, just because)
You got it. I'll definitely be giving it a second or even a third chance. Here's hoping!

Hi ladies, I did catch that first episode of Gossip Girl. Had seen the book series in passing a few years ago at the bookstore, but didn't think twice about it since it was more of a teen book. hehehe, but gee, reformat it into a WB-type show...put some interesting faces with some potential and BAM! I may get hooked. A possible guilty pleasure. 1st epi of Gossip Girl was much better than One Tree Hill's 1st epi and I did get reeled into that one. Never did watch one episdoe of the OC so I can't comment or compare. hehehe, to top it off, I even called my cousin and told her to add GG to her TiVo lineup.
I like that Kristen Bell is the narrator. Loved Veronica Mars. (Well, 1st season) Loved HER as Veronica. Fantastic nuances. Perfect fit for our Gossip Girl. =)
Okay, I finally gave it a second (and third) chance. I didn't watch last weeks episode until last night and then, of course, I got hooked and watched last nights show as well.
Okay, so I think part of what got me hooked on these two episodes was the conflict between Blaire and Serena. It was such good, catty fun. Now that they seem to have made up, what will it be? Are we going to have to watch what's his name (I call him creepy guy) hit on and harass women every episode? Or will it be all "Hey, I don't wanna go to that college, Dad!"? Not exactly the most original and thrilling parts of the show. What can I say, I'm all about the draaaama.
Anyone else watch? What did you think?

I'm right there with ya Oda. I just caught up on episode 2 & 3 Friday night. The Blair/Serena drama definitely makes this show. Can you believe Blair made that speech at the Ivy Luncheon?? What a B! I liked how Serena's brother stood up for her and told Blair that Serena was only protecting him! Another good moment was when Blair read the letter she had written to Serena but never mailed. A truce at last! And oh so quickly it can change though...like with that photoshoot debacle, I really thought that was it for them. I'm glad Dan spoke to Blair and that the 3 of them were cool with each other at the end.
