Ceiling fans...

Okay Pier gurus here's a tricky one. I am cleaning my ceiling fans today and I noticed that one of them is going counter-clockwise and the other two are going clockwise. I know that there is a difference in which way the fan circulates. One way brings warm air down in the winter and the other circulates cool air in the summer. Here's the question - which way is which? I went to the DIY network and Home Depot and can not find an answer. I know you guys will have one for me :upsideq:

Winter is clockwise and summer is counter-clockwise.

And I can't take the credit for knowing this off the top of my head, I had to ask someone.:dunse: Thankfully, my friend and her husband were visiting and he knew.

the key is this: you want the air to blow down in the summer to cool the skin, but in the winter you want it to blow up to the ceiling to circulate the warmer air. So turn on the fan, stand under it, and if the air blows on you then you know whether or not you want to change the direction. Because there are a few ceiling fans that rotate in the opposite direction from the rest of them.

Intrepid is right--if you feel the air pushing down, then it's in "summer" mode.
