Scoops for February 22, 1999
Scoops Section #1:
Uh...Carson City...
Even
though Amanda has seen through Moron, the story is far from over. (Unfortunately.) If Dozie thought Amanda jumped
all over Cameron’s back, just WAIT until she gets through with Dozie. Amanda and Dozie have a confrontation, with
poor Alli stuck right in the middle of it. Meanwhile, Gary is busy trying to get the truth out of Moron, but Moron
hasn’t told Gary the truth in so long he wouldn’t even know where to begin. He gives Gary some pansy excuse for
why the wedding broke up, and Gary, as one would expect, buys it completely.
With
Moron out of the picture, Sparky doesn’t hesitate to use Amanda’s pain to get closer to her, and find out more
about Amanda’s connection to his dead wife, Amalie. Using her pregnancy to her advantage, Dozie continues to be
in precarious health and experiences pains, hoping to keep Gary focused on her rather than on Moron and Amanda’s
problems. Since Amanda seems willing to keep quiet about Moron and Dozie’s baby, Dozie knows she can’t give up
now. When Cindy is arrested and asks Dozie to lose the evidence, Dozie agrees to take the tape from Joe’s locked
office drawer. Unfortunately Joe catches her red-handed in his office. When the smoke settles, it’s time for Moron
to talk to Dozie about an important decision he’s made about their baby’s future. While Amanda is lamenting her
losses in a private place, Dozie is double-crossing Cindy.
After
his memory begins to come back, Matt goes to see Sparky to find out just exactly what is really going on. It’s
really too bad that he and Cass are on opposite sides now, because Cass has also vowed to bring Sparky down. But
Sparky is too smart for both of them -- Matt is distracted by problems in his marriage, and Cass is distracted
by sightings of his dead wife. Matt finds something of interest at Lumina, and later, while talking to Amanda and
"David", Matt relates what he recalls of his encounters with the scarred mystery man. Cass and Matt get
into an argument about Lumina, and about Lila, which alters the already fragile relationship between Matt and Lila.
Lila asks her husband to give her a divorce, and she later has some good news for her lover, Cass, but he’s distracted
by an earlier encounter with "Frankie".
Scoops Section #2:
Happy?
Jake
and Vic continue their plan to get the goods on Grant and Cindy. Jake goes back to the hospital to see MarLie to
try to get more information out of her (FINALLY! I get to see MarLie this week!), despite Tyrone’s warnings. He
scores a hit when she tells him where she hit the tape -- inside one of the plant pots at the cottage. Cindy overhears
this, and flies back to the cottage. Unfortunately, she isn’t the only one using the surname Harrison who decided
to show up at the cottage that day -- Grant had dropped in on Vic unexpectedly, and Cindy has to wait until they’re
done doing their jazz until she can go in. But Cindy must have misunderstood MarLie, because she has to check EVERY
plant in the cottage. She finally finds the tape, but as she’s leaving, Jake arrives and catches her.
Cindy
tries to run, but Jake grabs the tape, and despite her best efforts, she can’t get it back. The police are called,
and Cindy and the tape are both taken to the station, where Joe tosses the tape in his office drawer after listening
to Grant’s confession, locking it up tight. Cindy calls Grant to warn him that Jake and Vic have the evidence they
need to bring him down, but then blackmails Dozie into getting the tape back for her. Dozie narrowly misses being
nabbed by Joe, and gives the booty to Cindy. You can just imagine how pleased Joe is when the tape turns up missing!
Jake feels his dream is coming true when he finds Grant in the cottage, but Grant isn’t there to seduce Vic --
he's furious with her for betraying him. Jake threatens to kill Grant if he ever comes near Vic again!
Back at the asylum, MarLie is treated to a surprise when she meets a
new person -- her new doctor, Dr. Clarke.
Scoops Section #3:
There Goes the Neighborhood!
Paulina makes Tito an offer he can’t refuse, which has Joe’s suspicions
on the prowl once again. Remy, ever the vigilant annoyance, catches Tito contradicting himself in his stories about
his relationship to Paulina, but Tito just laughs at her, and accuses her of being jealous of him having found
his family. Even presented with proof of his lies, Tito still scoffs. Joe has questions for Remy about Tito, and
her refusal to answer them doesn’t improve his mood. Remy finally ‘fesses up to Nick, and it turns out that she
was right to keep it from him -- he walks out on her, and it is Tito who offers her a shoulder to cry on.
Casting News
As
many of you have already heard, TVGuide announced last week that actor John Littlefield, who has played the role
of Gary Sinclair
since 1998, will be leaving the show. Finding reliable information on this is like pulling teeth, so most information
is conjecture. Apparently his last tape date is a few weeks after Mark
Pinter’s last tape date. This comes on the heels of another interesting
bit of news -- apparently Tim Gibbs hasn’t quite fit in as Kevin Buchanan over at OLTL. Gibbs, who originated the
role in 1995 and left to go to OLTL in 1998, has been sorely missed in Bay City. For a number of reasons (*COUGH,
COUGH* stupid writing *COUGH, COUGH*), JL’s Gary never quite caught on with a number of AW viewers, and if there’s
any chance that Gibbs may be leaving OLTL, I wonder if we can snag him back.
Be happy, Mark
Mortimer fans!
Many were concerned about what would happen when Mortimer’s contract ran out this month, but Mortimer has just
inked a new 13-week contract with the show. No word on whether or not he’ll finally get a decent storyline, but
at least they know talent when they see it. He will re-negotiate his contract again when this new one runs out.
Speaking of contracts, Nadine Stenovitch’s
is rumored to be up soon. No word yet on whether or not her contract will be renewed. Apparently we’ll know within
the next ten weeks. If AW continues in it’s present "Gary Sinclair is the Dumbest Man on Earth" line,
my hope is that if they’re writing out the character of Gary, they’ll send he and Josie away to raise the child
that he still hasn’t realised isn’t his.
Fact or Fiction?
Someone brought an interesting rumor to my attention over the weekend.
Some are now saying that while there will be a Grant murder mystery, Grant won’t be the one to die -- it will be
his former wife, Victoria, thereby closing the door on Jensen
Buchanan. While it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that Jensen
wants to spread her wings, there is no proof to this rumor whatsoever. Why would Jensen leave AW? She’s the central
female character, most likely the highest paid, and she calls all her own shots. If I had that kind of job, there’s
no way I’d leave. Sure, it could happen, but Paul
Korver could also come to town as two new Garrison/Hudsons.
This rumor shouldn’t even BE a rumor, because I recognized it. On an
AW messageboard not long ago, I was discussing recasting characters with old actors. I made a flip comment that
Michael and Marianne Randolph would soon be back in town, played by former actors who had already played the roles.
They’d be rich, full of secrets, and romancing Bay City’s finest. Imagine my surprise when I finally bothered to
check my e-mail and found that seven people wanted to make sure I knew this late-breaking rumor.
Looking for AW Stars?
Don't forget to set your VCRs to catch your favorite stars. Lisa Brenner (Maggie
Cory #5 and #7) will be on "Turks" on February 25th.
AW in the Ratings
For the week of February 12nd, AW was sitting nicely in the ratings at
2.2. The ratings have stayed pretty much the same for the last few weeks, ranging between 2.4 and 2.8.
Rants & Raves
Rants: What
the he@@ did Dozie do to her hair for the wedding? It looked like a cross between the Bride of Frankenstein and
some sort of nest. The worst part about it was that weird headband type thing. I couldn’t figure if it was supposed
to hold the hair down, up, back, or just on the head. Speaking of Dozie, doesn’t she look great for a woman who’s
supposed to be only four months along? Nice sized baby, isn’t it? *SIGH* Oh, please, Mr. Goutman, kill Moron. Not
in a few months, not in a few years. Now. Today. This week only proved to me that while Rodrick may have acting
potential, it’s not kicking in yet. Sure, *I* felt like crying too at the end of Friday’s ep, but not out of sympathy.
I was in pain. I’m starting to feel sympathetic for Dozie, which scares me. I realised that between Dozie and Lila,
Dozie is actually the more ethical of the two women. Sure, she’s going to all this effort to cover up the baby
thing, but at least she’s not flaunting her disrespect for her husband, his family, the bonds of marriage, and
God himself in everyone’s face. I’m starting to really dislike Cass and Lila. Not because they don’t fit together,
or because I want Matt and Lila together (Matt can do better), but because they care so little about the people
involved in this.
Raves: Sandra Ferguson actually managed to impress me this week.
Normally I could care less about what’s happening with the Queasy Quads, but it’s not like there was much else
on this week. Amanda finally found the intelligence of a pea to realise that Moron and Dozie have been plotting
all along to keep the truth from everyone. I was a little annoyed by the fact that she didn’t make a comment along
the lines of, "And what’s Josie going to tell Gary when this baby is born hale and hearty six weeks early?"
And why didn’t she haul off and belt the guy? Cindy’s scenes with Kirk and J&V were priceless on Thursday’s
ep. Viewers could even HEAR the laugh in Kim Rhodes voice when she was yelling about drop-kicking Kirk (which I
usually agree with). Of course, my highlight of the week was something that I shouldn’t admit to anyone -- it was
from Monday’s ep (I think) when Dozie and Gary brought over Moron’s tux. The AW writers used one of my favorite
all-time lines -- "That’s a little more information than I needed!"
