Scoops Section #1
Attack of the Killer Bleach Blonds
Shortly after Tito is bailed out of jail, Joe finds Paulina returning the
money to the till at Carlino’s. He accuses Paulina of having an affair with the young man, and Paulina tells Joe
that Tito is the son she gave up for adoption over twenty-three years ago. Joe doesn’t believe her, and has a few
choice threats for Tito, but Paulina tells Joe that she has the DNA tests to prove that Tito is her son. Joe doesn’t
relent easily, though, and continues to push Paulina for information. He isn’t the only one -- Remy also has some
questions for the newly-discovered mommy of her former partner in crime.
Scoops Section #2
The Blind, the Deaf, and the Game
Jake and Vic continue with their plans to trap the Harrison duo. Grant,
the only male character in Pine Valley utilizing his brain right now, realises that things are happening just a
little too easily, and sets a trap for Vic. Unfortunately for him, she wriggles out of it. Cindy, meanwhile, is
busy continuing her blackmail attempts on Dozie. She keeps reminding Dozie how much it will hurt Gary to find out
Josie made a cuckold of him with his own brother. Dozie, desperate to keep her secret, agrees to "lose"
any evidence she finds implicating Cindy. Just how far is Dozie willing to go to cover up her lies? (Anyone else
reminded of DOOL, when Marlena slept with John but pretended the baby was Roman’s?) While this is all going on,
Amanda and Cameron continue to plan their dream wedding in the Cory chapel, but a damper is put on it when Alli
refuses to have anything to do with the happy event. She’s the perfect weapon for Sparky, who uses Alli to reveal
the truth about Dozie’s pregnancy just in time to stop the wedding.
Scoops Section #3
Out of the Frying Pan…Onto the Front Burner
Matt has grabbed Lila for a passionate kiss, which she doesn’t feel she
has any choice about. She tells Matt that she never really loved Cass, which Cass (lurking around the mansion yet
again) overhears, and is devastated by. He leaves, and Lila is desperate to tell him it was a lie. He won’t talk
to her, so she searches him out, in the middle of a storm. She tells him how much she loves him, but that her greatest
fear is has been realised -- Matt won’t let Jasmine go with her if she leaves. They are ready to fall into each
others arms, but the window breaks, and Cass thinks he sees Frankie. He figures it’s just the storm playing tricks
on him, and he and Lila fall into bed together, making love for the first (and possibly last) time.
The happy moment is ruined when Lila has to return home to her husband.
The Luminization is wearing off of Mate, but he has a surprise for Lila -- he wants to make their marriage a real
one, and become a true family. He realises, though, that Lila might want to be with Cass, so he gives her a choice
-- either she agree, and the three of them become a family, or she leaves with Cass. The hitch? If she leaves,
she goes alone. Jasmine won’t be leaving the Cory household.
Doing the first intelligent thing he’s done in months, Cass tells Lila
that all they can have is that one night -- if she goes to him, or even spends one night away from her daughter,
Matt will be able to accuse her of neglect. As it is, Lila has virtually no chance of winning a custody battle.
Cass is shocked when he again sees a woman that looks so much like his dead wife. He chases her, but she gets away.
(Mental jolt...reminds me of AMC’s Joy/Camille storyline.)
Sparky’s wish has come true -- Cass is becoming obsessed with this vision
of his deceased wife, and Lila feels her relationship with Cass crumbling because of his obsession with a woman
he can never have. She is reminded of her marriage to Shobby -- once again, it seems like the man she gives her
heart to will stomp all over it.
Casting News
Anna Kathryn Holbrook
is slated to have her first airdate on March 9th (assuming we’re not moved/pre-empted again). She will be playing
a big part in Dozie’s pregnancy revelation -- I'm hoping that the "family crisis" bringing her to town
will be Gary kicking Dozie out, and Dozie losing her child. (I’m sorry, but I really don’t think that Dozie and
Spam-Moron would create the most intelligent, moral child. Besides, it’s television.) She will only be around for
a few episodes, but I’m hoping that "a few" means thirty or forty. I would love to see Sharlene stick
around Bay City for the summer, but then we’d have to start hiring a few males. With the only over-40 male on the
show drooling over Lila (unless Sparky is over 40), Rachel, Donna, and Felicia are going to have to start dipping
in the kiddie pool. How about Rachel and Nick, and Donna and Tito? If Sharlene comes back, who’s she going to date?
Zak? We’ve pretty much run out of single, non-related, fairly regular males. This come-back will be the first time
that Holbrook and Stenovitch have been on-screen together.
Truth & Rumor
As yet, the rumors that actor Paul
Korver will soon be joining the cast as long-lost Hudson twins
Seth and Kyle are just that -- rumor. AW has denied this rumor. Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but the idea
that AW would further stretch the bounds of credulity by creating another pair of identical Hudson twins is asking
too much. Not only are identical twins mostly fluke, but it wouldn’t be Michael who would be the determining factor
-- it would be the twins’ mother.
Life After AW
Anyone planning on seeing the #1 movie (at least where I am) right now?
"She's All That" features more than Freddie Prinze, Jr., and Rachael Leigh Cook -- former AW actress
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe
(the fourth Maggie Cory) has a part in this picture. I don't know if it's a big part or a small part, I just know
she's in it. Soap stars Debbi Morgan and Usher Raymond (also a singer) are in this, as is one of the famous Arquettes (brother Alexis Arquette) and a personal
favorite of mine, Matthew Lillard.
Another Maggie (Lisa
Brenner, Maggie #6) will be making an appearance on the telly.
On February 18th, Lisa will make a stop-over on the new CBS series "Turks", starring "Knots Landing"
alum William Devane.
At the start of the week (February 13th), Faith Ford (who played the third Julia Shearer) will be showcased in an episode of "Intimate
Portrait". Ford, who was a teenager when she started on AW, had a successful run for years on the top-rated
"Murphy Brown", and has bounced back from it's cancellation with a series all her own, "Maggie Winters".
(Before joining AW, Alicia Leigh Willis (Alli) actually guest-starred on MW.) On February 17th, the sixth Matt Cory (Brian Krause) will make an appearance
on "Charmed" as Leo Wyatt. (Check your TV guide for times/air dates in your area. I know my area NEVER
airs anything when it should.)
Talking With Co-Head Writer Leah Laiman
Leah Laiman recently gave an interview with TVGen’s Jonathan Reiner (which
can be found here). Laiman has the highest respect for co-head-writer Jean Passanante (who always seems to be forgotten
when people are doling out blame/congratulations), saying, "[s]he is probably the smartest writer I’ve ever
worked with". She acknowledges the Lumina storyline was entirely her brainchild (the woman has more courage
than I do -- I would go out of my way to SHIFT the blame on that one). She acknowledges that there is both a supernatural
and a perfectly logical explanation for the whole thing. She did, unfortunately, fall into the same trap that "Ally
McBeal" writers fell into by claiming we use only ten percent of our mind (we actually use upwards of ninety
percent). She had some fabulous things to say about MarLie, my particular favorite being, "[h]orrible things
happened to her, and if anyone wanted to be angry and bitter about something, she certainly had the right".
She seems to be confirming the rumor that Felicia will be getting romantically involved with Sergei sometime in
the future, as well as also confirming the reports that there are no plans to return Keating to "Another World".
She says Goutman is very conscious of what the audience wants -- then why are they firing Mark Pinter instead of Michael Rodrick or Nadine Stenovitch? I have never
heard people scream for Pinter’s firing, but I’ve heard people scream for Rodrick and Stenovitch’s.
Quotable Quotes
Thank you, Alli, for that little gem. I was wondering if anyone had told
you about Cameron’s hobbies as a child. It’s nice to see that SOMEONE in this annoying storyline has the sense
that God gave a toaster oven.
Alli (to Cameron): I was just wondering...is
it true that you murdered your own father?
Dead Hamster Award of the Week
This week’s dead hamster award goes to...Gary Sinclair! Congratulations,
Mr. Sinclair, for proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that while the wheel may be turning, the hamster is most definitely
dead. For months now he has been ignoring the not-so-subtle signs that Dozie’s been hiding a secret, and despite
his lack of knowledge, his gushing about his and Dozie’s perfect love was enough to make me want to shoot someone.
Rants & Raves
Rants: Jake’s speech
to MarLie was well-thought-out, touching, heart-breaking, and...utter BS. If he had meant a single word (which
he certainly should have -- if he was smelling what he was shoveling, he would have seen that every word he uttered
was dead on accurate), he would have been my nod for performer of the week. MarLie, you’re making a rant this week
-- how could you buy that tripe? This man went out of his way to bring you down for longer than I care to remember,
yet the second he bats his lashes, you cave? Dozie, Dozie, Dozie...are you bucking for worst cop of the year or
what? Sheesh. I’m beginning to have new respect for cops like Chip Rayburn and Jackie Warren. You’re starting to
make them look good. And Gary, get your head out of you-know-where and smell the sunshine, or in this case, the
baby powder. Can this man get any dumber? Does Dozie have like a de-magnetizer in her or something? Anyone within
ten feet of her or Cameron suddenly drops 50 IQ points.
Raves: Vic, you
are making my week. It’s been a long time since I’ve actually cared what happens with your storyline, but now that
you aren’t locked up in the basement, and you had a couple scenes where you weren’t blathering about Jake, you’re
quite refreshing! I love the new hair color too -- it looks much better on you, and you and MarLie look like you
might actually share some DNA. Paulina and Tito, your scenes on Monday were absolutely fab. I wanted to reach into
the TV and hug both of you, and usually the only thing I REALLY want to do while watching AW is slap Dozie, or
Spam-Moron, or both. It’s utterly fabu that P&L have finally given some storyline / airtime to Nick Hudson.
I wish it had nothing to do with Remy whatsoever, and I really don’t like how they seem to be turning him back
into the same control freak he used to be (anyone notice how similar Nick and Jake are? even in their treatment
of women), but it’s great to see Mark Mortimer getting some airtime. Grant! Have you been working out? I don’t
care how old Mark Pinter gets, he will always be sexy. How they could think of firing him is beyond me. Might just
be me, but I’d rather drool over Pinter’s bod than Cameron’s any day. Although Sergei’s was quite nice...last time
he was given some airtime...
