News & Teasers

Scoops Section #1: Congratulations, Mommy! It's a boy!

Tito has an interesting week this week on "Another Hour of that Annoying Remy Chick." He intercepts the test results before Paulina gets them, and makes a few adjustments. (Query: What adjustments? Does this mean that twit Remy ISN'T Paulina's daughter? Oh, is it my birthday already?) He then returns the letter to the pile. Paulina picks out the results, and tearfully (happily) reads them to Tito, telling him that yes, Virginia, there IS a Santa Claus!

Tito thought he would feel better when his con started working, but strangely enough, he feels worse. Paulina is the mother he always wished he had, and a part of him feels guilty about conning her. Part of him, of course, still wants the cash. And ALL of him knows that if he confesses, not only will he have no chance for the cash, but he'll lose the first person who has ever really cared about him. He begins to wish it wasn't just a con, and surprises both of them when he tells her to hold off on telling Joe about their relationship.

Tito has an ulterior motive, though. He knows Joe is already suspicious of him, and this would be the icing on the cake. What he DOESN'T know is that Joe has found out (from Nick) that Tito was Remy's stalker as well as the latest new con artist in Bay City, and is preparing to put out a warrant for his arrest. This, apparently, is without any help from Remy, who is more suspicious than ever after seeing Paulina and Tito embrace.

Paulina decides to finally tell Joe about her son, but that's not the only secret she's got in store for him. Paulina and Joe's relationship isn't the only one in trouble though -- when Nick finds out about Remy's lies, that relationship is also headed for disaster.

Scoops Section #2: And Then There Were Two...

Vic has borrowed the AW brain for a little while. She runs into Cindy one day, and has an acid flashback to the sixties involving her, Cindy, and some sort of animal...She realises that her adventures with MarLie had more people in them. Specifically, she realises Cindy knows more than she's saying. Unfortunately, then it's time to return the brain to Tito, and both Jake and Vicky jump to the conclusion that Cindy, Grant, and MarLie were all working together -- they shot Grant, they kidnapped Vic, they planned the WHOLE thing out.

She and Jake discuss strategy after Cindy tells Vic she's nuts, and they decide that Vic will approach Grant, because she knows that Grant's feelings for her have never died. She goes to talk to him about Kirkland, arousing Grant's protective side, and making him think that there is a chance for them again. Jake, meanwhile, goes to talk to MarLie in the hospital. He pretends that he cares about her and is worried about her, but he has to turn away when she buys that tripe and starts asking about Vic, because he's afraid he'll do what he did in the early nineties -- unleash his rage on her. He's happy enough to turn back a few moments later when she begins to open up to him.

Cindy isn't too worried about the McKinnons, but she is desperate to make Grant believe she didn't shoot him. She blackmails Dozie to get her the tape from the Lumina Ball, which Dozie hands over. Cindy takes the tape to Grant, sure that this will get her back in his good books, but she and Grant are in for a surprise when they finally do listen to the tape. (My guess? It's the loss minutes from Richard Nixon's infamous tape collection.) Dozie has finally realised that she's the world's worst cop, and has decided to resign from the BCPD, but her loving husband (who I sincerely hope kills her when he finds out the truth) does his best to convince her that, no, she ISN'T the biggest lying, cheating moron in Bay City.

Scoops Section #3: Relegated to the Back Burner Again

Shortly after Cameron confronts Sparky about the cabin, once again, Dozie and Cameron are wandering around in public places discussing their little nipper. But finally the record for "Most Times We Can Discuss a Terrible Secret in a Public Place and Not Be Heard" has finally been broken! This time Sparky happens to be standing in just the right place at the right time, and overhears their conversation. Being the gossip hound that he is, he can't resist -- he has to share that news with Lila. Wanting to spread the joy, he encourages Lila to tell Amanda. When she refuses, and goes to Cass for help, Sparky reacts like a five-year-old -- he threatens Jasmine. Lila begs Cass to help her, and the two confess their love for each other. After that, Sparky is furious with BOTH of them -- look for a Frankie look-alike to enter Bay City soon. And if that's not enough, Alli and "David" will get closer as Sparky continues to try to drive a wedge between the "happy" couple.

That's not Cass' only concern this week though. Cass has decided to take all his frustrations, sexual and otherwise, out on poor Sergei, and just about flips when he finds out that Felicia let the Russian composer stay in her apartment. He is doubly displeased to learn that as a thank you, Sergei has begun sending Felicia flowers.

Casting News

Make sure you double-check your VCRs. On the first two March episodes (provided we don't get pre-empted and bumped again), Kimberlin Brown will be on AW playing MarLie's roommate in the hospital. The role reportedly came about when Ellen joked that since she played Brown's roommate when Brown was in the psych ward on B&B, it would be neat if Brown could be HER roommate. Don't look for this to be permanent -- while Brown hasn't ruled out returning to soaps, it would take a mighty sweet role to get her to do an East coast soap, sincer her family (husband Gary Pelzer, daughter Alexes, son Nicholas) is based on the West coast.

Have no fear, Chris fans! Eric Morgan Stuart has recently inked a contract putting him in Bay City for at least another three years. Now if only the writers could get off their duffs and write him a story.

Rumors Abound

There's a rumor that Sparky is more than just a Freaky Friday Frank 'N' Furter. He is also said to be an honest-to-goodness time traveller. Apparently he can also bring OTHER people through time -- Alice Barrett Mitchell isn't returning as a Frankie look-alike, she will BE Frankie. Sparky will go back in time to before Frankie's death and bring the character into the now. (Only question is...if he does that, doesn't that change the whole storyline? If Frankie disappeared, then she wasn't murdered, and instead of mourning a beloved wife, Cass will be despising a woman who up and left him and their daughter...)

Line of the Week: Toni Burrell

After the line she said this week, I had to create a special section for this. The "line of the week" goes to a clip from Monday's show, where Toni and Grant are together in the police station...

Grant: It's always upsetting to me to see what a little authority can do to a small mind.
Toni: You ought to know!

(Find transcripts of the show at: http://members.tripod.com/-Laura_AW)

Rants & Raves

Question: Isn't the Cory cabin the same cabin that Sharlene and Michael made love in? That door looks so familiar...

The rants and raves section sort of...mushroomed this week. I made the mistake of writing it WHILE I was watching, instead of after I was done.

Rants (AKA. The Dead Hamster Society)

Alli: AW should stop by the GAP on their way home -- she's been wearing that purple and white shirt since she got home.

Sparky: Anyone else notice that Sparky's favorite Stark color is purple? And what's with his voice? Used to be Stark was deep, and Clark was light with the donkey giggle. Now it's switching back and forth regardless of the face. And wow, those scars seem to be disappearing overnight!

Rachel & Amanda: Is it just me, or lately is Rachel taking on some of Amanda's slightly airheaded qualities? I see why Ferguson was cast as her daughter originally -- even in her twenties, Ferguson had...something that was Wyndhamesque. Great advice Rachel -- tell Amanda to leave with Cameron to alleviate the problem of Amanda putting Cameron before Alli. I see a slight problem there...Two words to say on Amanda's new winter jacket: Staypuff Marshmellowman.

Cameron: Note to AW hairdresser: lose the bowl look on Cameron --right now, he looks like he's wearing a cheap toupee.

Jake & Vicky: It's nice to know that Vicky remembered Michael was dead...to bad she didn't remember her own role in Michael's death at the same time. Here's a thought for Vic -- if Michael was still alive, MarLie would never be who she is today. MarLie would still BE identical to Vic. For that matter, MarLie would still be in China, hiding from Jake's attempts to abuse her and control her life. I'm not even going to get into my numerous rants about Jake for this week. Suffice it to say, Jake needs only know one thing: What goes around comes around.

Sergei: What did they do, steal his accent from old Rambo re-runs? I might not be fluent in that particular language, but I DO speak enough Russian to know that accent has a LOT of troubles. He's hitting letters he shouldn't be hitting, messing up on letters...at least he hit one part right. *SIGH*

Remy: This rant SHOULD belong to NicWit, but it's not his fault that he's turning into one of the Bash Brothers. That's REMY's fault. That sanctimonious, holier-than-thou, self-centered little...my character rating system works on who I would associate with in real life. I would let Tito move into my house, raise my children, and manage my finances before letting Remy within a mile of my family. And if she doesn't lose that rabbit-fur type coat, I'm going to report her to some animal cruelty group.

I do have a fairly general rant though -- what's with this ending / beginning junk? We end one show, watching Vic thrash her head back and forth, and see her wake up and see MarLie, and do a little denial job. Next show, she just suddenly wakes up, but there's no terrified no-no job.

Raves (AKA. Who's Got the Brain?)

Toni: Toni! You're not a total twit after all! I can't for the life of me remember at the moment what Toni said to Grant in the cop shop, but it was good. I usually watch AW in silent contemplation, but I crowed that day. NO! Not another one-another rave for Toni. She's the first one to say anything sensible to Jake in a long time. Even Etta Mae, who is on my bad list right now, had some good words to say to Jake concerning Vic.

Cameron: Cameron's making a rave this week. I don't particularly care for the character, but he's the only one of the C/Am equation that has a brain cell at the moment. Of COURSE Alli is having trouble accepting Cameron. "Oh, Alli! Welcome home. I'm marrying Cameron, who spent ten years in prison for murdering his father, and who did the Boca Bonk with his sister-in-law. There's no part of me whatsoever that has trouble with putting this 28-yr-old convict in a household with my (hopefully) innocent 15-yr-old daughter." *SIGH*

Alli: I'm also loving Alli. She is the only Cory who is responding realistically to C/Am. The first thing out of my mouth if I were her would be, "He spent TEN YEARS in PRISON for MURDERING his FATHER??"

Vicky: Someone help me out here...didn't Jake attempt to rape Vicky once upon a time? That popped into my head the other day while reading Eddie Dreuding's page. Jensen was amazing this week -- for the first time, she actually briefly outshone Ellen Wheeler in her scenes during the hospital meeting. It was impossible not to feel for Vic while she was trying to talk MarLie out of suicide. Thankfully, Vic is far more sensible and realistic (and more intelligent) than Jake is. She knows that there are more reasons than just the surface reasons why MarLie did what she did -- and perhaps she even realises that, to some extent, she and Jake contributed to MarLie's current problems.

Sparky: Hey -- Sparky's actually got personality as Clark. He's fun, likeable, and except for that constant maniacal grin and donkey giggle, actually kind of cute.

MarLie:
MarLie's scenes were excellent this week, despite being fairly unuseful. Her scenes during the hysteria were not only realistic, they were riveting. I guess someone didn't like the whole realism deal and calmed the scenes down. *SIGH* Ellen Wheeler is still a shoe-in for AW's Emmy nomination this year -- she deserves it more than any other character/actor on that show for last year. (That doesn't mean the others don't -- just that she deserves it more.) Besides, MarLie hasn't done anything truly unforgivable. Look at all the more...heinous acts we have on the show. Jake viciously rapes MarLie. Cameron murders his own father. The writers gave us Shobby. Nick rapes a drunken date. Dozie exists. Grant shoots his own brother in the back. Grant kidnaps Vicky (starting a whole new psychotic trend). Cindy assists in the death of her own sister and nephew. Everything Sparky has done since coming to Bay City. Donna running her own daughter down with her car. Paulina shoots Jake. Everything Carl did in the first few years of his run on the show.

Dozie: Oh, no, not that -- anything but that. Dozie got a rave this week while talking to Cindy. I have never, EVER, cared about anything Dozie has ever done or said (since the recast), but she got a few good licks in where Grant was concerned on Thursday. Maybe the character is redeemable.

Cindy: Score one for Cindy! "Why should I take the tape to Joe when your perfect wife didn't?" And hey -- it was great seeing Cindy as a redhead again. I admit it, I'm not a fan of her new hair color --it makes her look like Morticia Addams. Nice mathematics for Cindy --she knew Dozie and Gary weren't doing the sideways hula -- Dozie is approximately five months pregnant right now (if I can see it on the screen, how do they think they can keep it a secret?). Dozie told Gary to feel the baby move over two months ago now. And we're supposed to believe she's due in five-and-a-half months? Uh-uh. Cindy knows the score -- not only is she a former nurse, but she's got the Bay City brain this episode.

Tyrone: While I think Tyrone is the world's worst lawyer, I love him as a character. He has feeling, he has emotion, he's got the body of a linebacker, and he's got personality. He and MarLie hugging on the dock, with the tears in his eyes, was pure excellence. And the contrast of Tyrone's dark, tall, and sexy looks against MarLie's paleness, naturally pale hair color (as opposed to Vic, who's natural hair is probably Matt's color), pale skin, and her own considerable height (Toni and Tyrone were a joke)...fabulous!

Chris: Chris made half a rave..."...he blames himself even more... Yes.' I agree! That's the most important part of this whole issue -- MarLie took Vic because of JAKE. Would Chris be feeling the the way if he knew Jake's history of abusing and controlling MarLie? Would anyone?

Gary: An interesting rave for Gary though...he hit a point right on the head -- Dozie's behavior around Cindy DOES smack of jealousy...and more than a little righteous fear. I hope Cindy gets Dozie's goat so well, she leaves Bay City and never returns.

Matt: Matt, baby, what have you done to your hair? I love it! I've never much cared for Matt Crane (and I mean EVER), but those little things...right now, Crane's got my brother's haircut, which for some odd reason makes the character mildly sympathetic. Sign me up for the "Matt & Lila" fan club. Lila and Cass have bothered me for awhile, and I know why now --I'd prefer the marriage to actually WORK!

Sergei: This young man gets a rant for one main reason this week -- he made me laugh. And boy, does HE look like Matt Crane. The accent may bite, but Sergei is cuter than a button. Sure, he's combining an East Indian, an Arabic, a French, and the worst Flemmish accent I've ever heard, but who cares. Anyone who can rips strips off Felicia, start a fight, and cry all in one day is worth a shot.

Tito: Thank you, Tito, for giving Remy a few home truths. I will pay you money to give her a few more. Is it 3ust me, or has he lost weight since he started on the show? His face seems a lot thinner than his first few episodes in December. And the constant bleaching is working - - it's lost that sun-rinsed bronze sheen, and is now a nice, platinum blond.

AW in the Movies?

Has anyone seen "Wrongfully Accused" with Leslie Nielsen? The movie is okay, but what I found interesting were the names of two of the lead characters -- Ryan Harrison and Cass Lake. Remember Cass Winthrop / Crystal Lake? Maybe I have AW on the brain, but those names just seemed too...coincidental.
