Etsy Wednesday - Miniature (and full sized) Hats

A couple of weeks ago, my friend and I checked out the Anime Fest on our dinner break just to pass the time. Our favorite part was seeing all the amazing Lolita costumes and best of all...the tiny hats!

Of course, I completely forgot about my temporary obsession (as I tend to do) until I came across the Gypsy Lady Hats Etsy shop.

Obsession renewed!

Oh, and in case you're not into the miniature thing, all their small hats are replicas of full sized hats.

They're a little pricier than the items I normally show on Etsy Wednesday, ranging from $50-$145, but each hat is created with the finest materials. So you know you're not only getting something unique (or custom if you desire), but also of the highest quality.

Monday Moment - Revisit

I think one of my favorite parts of setting up my new photoblog is going back and revisiting my older shots, like this one you see above. It's my friend Jimmie Lee (yes, it's a man) posing in the beautiful queen's costume from a play we worked on together.

I had completely forgetten we even did this photo shoot back in August of '07. I only had my little Sony point n shoot at the time and was just realizing photography might be something I wanted to take more seriously.

Of course, out of about 100 photos, this is probably the only well framed shot. Most of them had a terrible tree in the background that looked like it was coming out of his head. Luckily in this one there was only a little bit of tree so I went ahead and photoshopped it out.

So, I think today you should take a moment to revisit some of your old photos, or writing, or drawings...whatever it is and see if you can bring it back to life. Or at least just reminisce.

Etsy Wednesday - Going Mobile

Are these not some of the coolest mobiles you've ever seen? I could totally hang every one of them in my apartment. I bet I could do some fun photo stuff with them too.....

These unique mobiles come from the Salty and Sweet Etsy shop. I wish I could show you all of them right here, but I just have to trust you'll go see 'em for yourself. Of course, in keeping with the Halloween theme, I had to highlight the zombie mobile (at top) entitled "Six Feet Over." That's (naturally) the first one that caught my eye.

Each mobile is laser cut from 1/16" solid black mat board and joined with black wire, which means they're precise and sturdy. Also, they come fully assembled so you don't have to worry about putting it all together yourself.

Each piece costs $30. That might seem a little steep but remember, you're buying a truly unique piece of art that I imagine you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else.

So get shoppin!

Art House Scavenger Project....Do It!

They just announced the latest of projects, The Scavenger Project!

I haven't been able to celebrate it much in the last few years (because I'm a lame grownup who usually has to work) but I still love everything about it. Monday Moment - A new month...

As I recently explained, September straight up sucked. Ok, well I didn't really explain it all that well, but you can trust me on that. Maybe one day I'll give you all the details, but the bottom line is...October simply must RULE!

So far I'm off to a pretty good start. The weather has been amazing, we went out to a movie this weekend (Zombieland!), I've cooked some chili and the new roommate is working out very well. All super great, relaxing things.

However, I've been completely bored with my photos lately. I know I'll get over it, but I want to get over it like...right now! I feel like September has left a fog in my brain and it just won't clear.

Hey, in other pretty good news, my photoblog is really shaping up nicely! Give it a look!

Polaroid's Comeback...Impossible!

I think it's safe to say most of us, and I'm talking on earth here, were pretty sad when Polaroid filed for bankruptcy in 2001 and subsequently shut down its operations in June of 2008. Not even digital can trump the gratifcation of holding an instant photograph in your hands.

Just the thought of Polaroid, let alone the actual photos, bring back so many memories to us all. Who can forget the satisfying sound of the photo leaving the camera or shaking the film, anxiously waiting to see what you shot.

One of my favorite memories has to be when I stage managed a burlesque/vaudeville show here in the city and one of the perks was hawking $5 polaroids with the (often scantily clad) women of the show to the patrons. Sure, the lovely ladies had a lot to do with it, but no one could deny that walking out with a Polaroid memento in your hands was the selling point.

Well, in case you haven't heard, thanks to Florian Kaps, instant film is hopefully a thing of the future as well as our past. He bought up an old Polaroid factory in the Netherlands with the dream of completely reinventing instant film and giving it a new name. He and his team of awesome are hard at work on "The Impossible Project," where they plan to have the new and improved film back on the market by 2010.

You can help support the cause by buying a t-shirt, spreading the word on your own blog and even sharing your knowledge with the team as they attempt to conquer their long list of challenges.

Some of my favorite things about fall are wool socks, scarves, and hot coffee.

Mmmm, hot coffee.

I'm so addicted to coffee that I'm also addicted to mugs...'cause y'know, girls and their accessories. So I went out in search of a new mug on Etsy and although I found a ton of beautiful pieces, none were quite as unique as what I found in the Niswander Ceramics Etsy shop.

I mean seriously, I had to double check that these were actually hand made. People never cease to amaze me. And that "Franken' Stein" up there...only $32.

It's not all about Halloween, as you can see by that amazing wine chiller/utensil holder in the middle there, so if less seasonal is what you're after, be sure to check it out too!

Monday Moment - It's messy

First show of the season is done! We closed yesterday and I'm praying that the time off and a new month will help get my brain back in gear. I mean seriously, you see that mess up there? That's about where my sanity is these days.

September was filled with ups and a whole lot of downs. Really no middle ground or normalcy to speak of. Just days where I was able to set things aside and act like a human being for a few hours.

October is already starting off more interesting with a new roomate moving into our place. The rent was getting too high with the lack of work, so we had to bite the bullet. I'm terrible when it comes to change like this, but it's also so necessary that I'm the one who's gonna have to deal with it and just...let it go.

As long as no one labels their food...I think I should be ok.
